Ah, so he survived the Malick curse. But I wonder how much music he did, survived in the film (without being re-recorded) and how much was used where it was supposed to be.

I hope it's not a relative of "Defiance" -- there's a score I couldn't take one cue from.

I saw the movie and I liked a lot, it's great, a moving story and as always with Malick' films, it is beautifully shot. Terrence Malick is my favorite director, I like all his movies and this one is right up there with “The Thin Red Line” and “The Tree of Life”. The score is stunning, and surprise, it is in the movie! I think at least 30 min appear in the movie. The score share equal time with the classical music (also great, as always in Malick's movies). JNH really understood Malick' vision and the struggle of the characters. His music is like an introspection into the human soul and consciousness, some times it's beautiful, romantic and emotional (the love between the two main characters) other times it's dark, intimate and contemplative. I'm glad that finally my favorite composer worked with my favorite director. Score of the year for me!

Good to hear. My colleagues have been positive to it too (they saw it at Cannes), although I won't be able to see it for some time yet. In fact, I'm not even sure it has a Norwegian distributor, and if it gets one, we're looking at 2020.
The score is my favourite of 2019 so far, I think, and -- as I mentioned earlier -- JNH's best score since THE VILLAGE. I'm sure a soundtrack is down the line, and I'm guessing it will be similar, if not identical, to the FYC material on the Fox Searchlight site.

I don't have time to finish it today, but so far my thoughts on the cues:
I want to like "A Hidden life", but it's repetitive and reminds me too much of "The Village" (which does the ideas better).
"Return" is lovely, though it kind of putters out for the last thirty seconds or so.
Skimmed through the boring "Morality in Darkness". Eventually skipped over to the next cue.
I think I'll have to listen to "Love and suffering" again to make a final judgment on it.

"Hope" was borderline for me.
"Descent" I enjoyed the most.
"Knotted" left me indifferent.
And the final cue up, "There Will Be No Mysteries", came and went and I cant' say I remember any of it -- which is a good way to describe pretty much 99% of the entire score.
I skipped the classical arrangements.
Overall I have to say while not a bad score, this is not something I will own, even for a cheap price. And I don't feel any compulsion to re-listen to anything I heard.

CD content is the same as the Fox Searchlight tracks, which is comforting. It's a neat listening experience, the classical material merging beautifully with JNH's score.
What classical selections are used in FILM? Any on the CD?
