The organ reminds me of the Thomas900 that Nicolai used on morricone's face to face. Is it Nicolai? If not, im going to give up!

The clip is from Mr. Klein, directed by American expatriate Joseph Losey.

And now for something a bit more lively.... https://soundcloud.com/user-861338222/mystery4/s-QsGzQ Another one that if you've heard is likely instantly recognizable but otherwise I dare you to guess the composer because it's probably pretty left field. My first thought is that this is from an anime composer - reminded me a bit of a similar busy work with orchestra by Joe Hisaishi from Porco Rosso. I'm sure it's not Hisaishi, but I'd guess it's someone working in that idiom.

[startquote Egisto Macchi ? Assassination of Trotsky Right composer (Macchi) & director (Losey) & actor (Delon), but Mr. Klein - not Trotsky. It was a toss up with these two (without actually pulling bot cds out) and I went the wrong way

I'm sure it's not Hisaishi, but I'd guess it's someone working in that idiom. Not even close really. The clue is that the piece is actually an orchestration of something original for a jazz trio -- the composer is mostly known as a jazz musician/composer, but the disc it's from has three original concert works, plus this, orchestrated by the conductor. After I wrote this, I did look it up, and the title suggests I may not be as far off in terms of idiom as I clearly am in terms of composer. Though not anime but a video game series.

Next Stop: one movement of contemporary classical. https://soundcloud.com/thunder-butler/sets/mystery-cue Who do you think wrote it? Don't look at me, Z. I got nothing, and Shazam got nothing. Much as I still have the taste for this sort of thing once in a while, and I enjoy the relatively clear construction, I don't hear anything distinctive to separate it from all the other music like this written in the last 50-70 years. More of the same mournful, disjointed crash-bang, I'm afraid.

This has been a fascinating thread. I really admire the breadth and depth of the musical knowledge the participants in this topic have demonstrated. I feel very ignorant. You ALL have so MUCH knowledge of various composers. Bravo to all of you. (Should any of you ever post the Really Hard stuff like the Pink Panther theme, the main theme from The Magnificent Seven, the main James Bond theme, or themes from Jaws, Star Wars, Superman (Williams), Indiana Jones, To Kill A Mockingbird, The GB&U, I'll try a guess.) That made me chuckle joan - and for a second I had a flash of brilliance, to edit a bar or two from all those warhorses you named, and putting it up. Alas, I haven't the tech savvy anymore to do so...instead here is the gag in written form! Dont be so hard on yourself!! :-D

All right, this has driven me completely crazy, because I'm sure I have it amongst the 20,000 songs I have in iTunes. Let's have it.
