City can take solace in the fact that, based on this performance, even if they had scraped through against Lyon, Bayern would have beaten them easily. I say again, they are no great shakes in this competition and never have been.
So now it's just Man Utd left in Europe this season, which is a surprise given how awful they've been.
I thought Pep bottled it last night, like he was scared of defeat, so was extra cautious. They would have destroyed Lyon under normal circumstances. They also had some bad calls, especially the Lyon second goal, which had a clear and obvious foul in the build up. But they certainly haven't had Liverpool's consistency or steel this season. Let's hope it continues into next season.
It was a strange team Guardiola picked last night. All those holding midfielders and defenders, like he was being overly cautious against the seventh best team in France. Still, it was hilarious to watch.
