Just out of curiosity (and I'm too lazy to do any real research), if it works, how do they monitor over the course of a lifetime (elephants typically ~70 years) to determine if the efforts were successful? I mean, do they try to create a breeding herd? Do they allow interbreeding? Are there possible genetic defects that might cause unforseen dangers to existing herds?

It makes no sense to me. Genetically modified elephants who are cold resistant during global warming. A lot of times these projects are announced just to get investors to pony up $$$ for their start-ups.

For sure! Looks like they've raised upward of $15 million so far. Has anyone ever done a study to determine if folks doing this sort of "startup" thing ever suddenly have a significant increase in their standard of living (not implying it about these folks)?
