The ALIEN universe is the best thing cinematic history has ever created, and it's really an endless realm of possibilities.

That is some far out hyperbole

I admire Alien and really enjoy Aliens. But they're at their core modern day 50's "B" movies. The subject matter doesn't merit "world building" and once they did that they fell apart.

Agreed as well. I hadn't thought of it that way, but Aliens blended the best of It! The Terror From Beyond Space, Them! and Alien and rocked!
I hated Alien3 at first, but I have mellowed over time. It did return to its roots with the focus on Ripley.

There could be some potential for a well-done series, but for me, I wouldn't want it to be like the last installments of prequels.

No, it's my genuine feeling on the matter.

In cinematic history? like of all movies ever made, by anyone, like EVER?
I guess I would need to know what "universe" means, like serial stories, like Star Wars and Marvel and Star Trek?

Sure. The first two movies share my 2nd alltime favourite movie spot (after JURASSIC PARK), and as a whole, there is no other cinematic universe that has been so consistently good throughout all movies.

The ALIEN universe is the best thing cinematic history has ever created.

In the over 100 years of cinema to consider, to state a sci-fi monster series like the Alien franchise is "the best thing in cinematic history" is truly unbelievable.

You've actually WATCHED films other than these, right?

None of the Alien films - absolutely none of them individually or as a whole - approach the heights of greatness of films like Citizen Kane, Casablanca, Psycho, The Brothers Karamazov, Spartacus, On the Waterfront, The King and I, The Maltese Falcon, Marty, Requiem for a Heavyweight, Jaws, Raging Bull, The Wizard of Oz, or All Quiet on the Western Front. Absolutely none of them. Nobody could ever prove otherwise and I seriously doubt the filmmakers would argue. The Alien films are popcorn movies for the horror/SF crowd. And I love them!

Perhaps saying it is your "favorite cinematic universe" would be more accurate.

Nope. I think the two first movies are some of the best things that cinema has ever created, moreso than any of the titles you mention. I also think, as a whole, the film series has no competitor that even comes CLOSE. It's really the closest you'll get to perfect cinema, the way I see it -- below surface-level genre fare are layers upon layers of philosophical weight and audiovisual symbolism.

The ALIEN universe is the best thing cinematic history has ever created.

This is, wholly, the stupidest thing I've ever read on here, and that includes posts by runningwithscissors

Well I don't mean to gang up on Thor. He likes what he likes, but he also said Blade Runner was the greatest Science Fiction film ever made and that was the consensus critics and audiences alike. I imagine the average person still can't get all the way through that movie.

Not a terribly controversial statement to say that BLADE RUNNER is one of the greatest science fiction films in history, is it? Whether it's THE greatest, is harder to say. Obviously, I rate both ALIEN and ALIENS higher. But it's up there and a fairly common occurence on most top 10 sci fi lists, I'd dare to say.

2001 is the best science fiction film ever made, not just my opinion, it has topped too many lists to be much of an argument.
Now whether you like it or not is a different issue.

Blade Runner 1982 is an iconic science fiction film for certain, to many, an achievement of art design and production design and visual effects and nothing more, but it is one of the top 10 or so science fiction films ever made. While I like Alien, I always felt Ridley's Blade Runner is a better film.

Well Thor said (previously) Blade Runner is the greatest science fiction film ever made, not one of the best science fiction films ever made.

I would say 2001, Planet of the Apes, Rollerball, Forbidden Planet, Star Trek 1 & 2, Star Wars (if you want to count that as sf) So many other sci fi films are far more iconic. Most of those films had something to say while wowing us with their audio/visuals.

Blade Runner objectively is visually interesting, and has an iconic score but the story is a slog and the acting is awful. Unlike the titles I listed above BR has hardly hit a cord in pop culture.

Blade Runner is absolutely a divider, I think far more people dislike it than like it, but if you start googling you will find it on a lot of important lists, just a couple here. Again, perfectly understandable if you do not enjoy it, you have a lot of company.

...but I still found it a bit empty.

In a nutshell!

People are trying to find a reason to like it years later, (me included!) As a society consumed with nostalgia it's fogging minds. Not everything is "misunderstood", nor should we have to try sooooo hard to like something. It's a dud, simple as that.

I've said that? Could be. Nothing wrong or controversial with that assessment, although I rate both ALIEN and ALIENS higher. Of course, they lean more heavily towards horror. I rate all of these before 2001, great a film as it may be.
