Wanted to love it - didn't. Too much Star Wars, Harry Potter, etc. I don't need any more Star Wars ever, I've never liked the Harry Potter music, and there's no sense of balance to the album. Far and Away and Memoirs of a Geisha are probably my least favorite Williams scores - but I understand the audience they're going for. But I would have much preferred a more eclectic album that would be interesting to listen to. I don't need to ever hear this again. Production elements are fine as are performances, but it's just the same old same old. The only really nice surprises are the Markings track and Nice to Be Around.
I enjoyed it too, especially the too-rarely heard music from DRACULA, which should be revived far more than oft-played but IMHO uninspired Spielberg stuff like SAVING PRIVATE RYAN.
I would like the score to FAR AND AWAY much better if it didn't remind me of that damned dreary movie -!
