I was told that the Varese album not only has everything in the film, but more besides which was recorded specifically for the album to bring it to a proper length.
Yavar, you have that absolutely correct, if Mr. Goldsmith's memory on his own work was to be trusted. His response confirmed that when I thanked him for the extra 10-ish minutes (in Detroit). He said, "Well, I had to; they wanted an album. I didn't have any choice."

It's interesting that he didn't do that for Six Degrees of Separation, though. They still made a soundtrack album out of that with only 17 minutes of score (presumably everything he wrote, again unless there were alternates or unused cues...I suspect the latter at least would have been included to pad the album if they existed).

Different relationship with Elektra than with Varese? It didn't sound like he was thrilled about expanding Creatures.

Makes sense that he might be willing to write and record extra music for his friend Robert Townson but not just for some random non-Varese project.
I'm just somewhat amazed Six Degrees of Separation even got a soundtrack album.

Tell me about it. As great as the expanded Intrada album was, not getting every last note Goldsmith wrote for the film was crushing. 
Let's not forget that Jerry's great score to In Harm's Way is in a similar limbo of being tantalizingly expanded (similarly because an extra score cue was considered for and cut for, but not used on the album) but not yet complete. Hopefully the original tapes turn up some day for both.

I have updated the first post AGAIN, to remove yet another score just given a premiere by La-La Land! Thanks to them we now have everything Jerry recorded for Barnaby Jones, plus a Bruce Broughton score for the series and a bunch of good TV work by other talented composers (Schifrin, Shire, Patrick Williams), all in a bargain 2 CD set:

MAN, we hadn't had a Goldsmith premiere since 2014, and then all of a sudden in the last six months we have had THREE! And we know Intrada still has some Goldsmith releases on the way too...I can't wait to see what else is in store, but for now I know I'll be cherishing Barnaby Jones, maybe the most badass Goldsmith theme of all (either in its later epic large orchestral concert arrangement, or in its original funky version!)

And as far as the old crime solver genre goes, he seemed to make a specialty of it between Barnaby Jones, Winter Kill, Hawkins on Murder (Hawkins when it went to series), Archer, films like The Detective, and heck even the TV movie elderly heroines of Do Not Fold, Spindle, or Mutilate!

Not long ago I had added Planet of the Apes back into the initial post here:
"Planet of the Apes (Varese / Fox) -- Varese's mid-90s issue of this was complete, but in light of the recent Jack O'Callaghan scholarly work on the score, it seems there are possibly three (maybe even more) alternate original versions of cues which could be included on a new issue. In the almost two decades since Varese's release, there is also a likelihood of someone like Michael Mattesino being able to achieve much better sound quality (in fact, most people think the Varese complete release was a step backwards in sound quality compared to the earlier expanded, but not complete, issue from Intrada)."
In light of LLL's recently announced definitive release of all five original PotA film scores, it seems appropriate to remove it from the list again, and it appears that those alternate original versions that O'Callaghan realized with his samples-and-live-percussion re-recording were not in fact originally recorded, or they would no doubt have been included here! Perhaps if a full orchestral re-recording is produced some day, we will finally hear those early ideas as originally intended, with orchestra. But for now let's revel in this gorgeous looking set!
