Well the Test series may be decided, but after the start of the final Test in the series, England have finally won a day's play! WI won the toss and put us into bat, but when you do that you have to bowl the opposition out in a day... and England finished on 231/4. Yes, the top order collapsed again, but Stokes and Buttler put on a partnership of 124, and we are in pole position. Now if these two gentlemen could double their scores today, we might just go on to win it.

Well well, England finally pick an express bowler and what happens? He takes wickets and the WI batsmen can't handle him! Why didn't they do that from Test 1?

Mark Wood has figures of 23 for 4 and the WI in all sorts of trouble at 89/6.

Finally a big score from the England captain and our first centurion of the series. We have a massive lead too. We are going to win this Test. Shame it's come two Tests too late.

Talk Sport this morning mentioned that the England team were averaging about 16 runs per wicket, the worst since the 1880s!

It just doesn't look good. We've got one more Test this series, and the inaugural Test against Ireland in six months, to sort out our problems. Then it's the Ashes.

Australia meanwhile have just got completed a thumping of Sri Lanka down under, with four centuries from Joe Burns, Travis Head, new star Kurtis Patterson (look out for him this summer) and Usman Khawaja. Granted, the opposition isn't up to much, but they're in much better shape than we are at the moment.

Don't rate us on that Sri Lanka series. They were depleted.

Rate us on what India did to us on our own soil. For the first time. Ever.

Well I assume Smith and Warner will strengthen your batting considerably this summer.

Maybe. Possibly a bit rusty after their.....penance.

And we are not great at batting against swing bowling. Or spin for that matter.....

So with a new-style line-up, we are in danger of winning one?!
If ever there was a stone banker bet it was a 3-0 whitewash. Bookies must be laughing!

Victory by 232 runs. Huzzah!

Next Test is the inaugural one vs Ireland this summer (Thomas will enjoy that one) and then the Ashes.

Afghan hit a record 278 in the T20 international against Ireland. I mean, that's a decent ODI knock. 278!!

Fairly sure I won't as we will likely get hammered. Be lucky if it reaches the weekend!

Afghanistan recently played, and won, their debut Test, against Ireland.

Ireland batted first and promptly collapsed to 85/9, but a cracking last wicket partnership between Dockrell and Murtagh took them to 172 all out, Murtagh making his debut half century. Murtagh is the second-oldest No. 11 to score a Test fifty, beaten by Pat Symcox by a couple of months. Like their football team, the Irish never know when they're beaten!

Alas, it wasn't enough, as Afghanistan won by seven wickets, but it's nice to see some fight and I doubt Ireland will be pushovers come the summer.

Bonkers goings on in South Africa recently. Sri Lanka arrived on their shores following a chastening whitewash at home 0-3, to England, followed by series defeats to Australia and New Zealand. And yet somehow, they've whitewashed South Africa 0-2 in their own backyard. The Proteas had never lost a home series against an Asian side.

In the first match Sri Lanka needed 80 runs to win in the fourth innings, with only one wicket left, and got them, thanks to a cracking knock of 153 by Kusal Perera. In the second match, they breezed to an eight wicket win. How South Africa's pace attack were ineffective in the fourth innings is beyond me.

Ah, the wonders of Test cricket!

A few updates.

World Cup squads have started to be announced, with NZ the only team to do so, so far.. Australia, England and the West Indies look in good form. India lost a home series against Australia recently but they'll be contenders come the World Cup, no doubt. The first match is England vs SA at The Oval on May 30th.

West Indies have sacked coach Richard Pybus after only three months . Harsh after he lead them to a Test series win against England.

MS Dhoni has been fined after he walked on to the field to protest a no-ball call whilst his IPL team was batting.

Ravi Ashwin caused controversy in another recent IPL match when he mankaded Joss Buttler without warning.

The Bangladesh cricket team narrowly escaped the mosque shootings in New Zealand last month. The Test scheduled for that weekend was cancelled.

I was at Malahide yesterday for the ODI. Delayed start due to a wet outfield but we got going couple of hours later at revised 45 overs. Really enjoyable day, the cricket was pretty.good. We got off to a decent start though probably ended up 25-30 runs short though we did give England a bit of a scare at one stage. Josh Little done great on his debut taking the 4 wickets, and it was interesting to see Archer bowl on his debut as well. Very athletic guy and bowls at great pace.

Good crowd as well. We were seated near some of the Barmy Army and Athers came over during the game and sat and chatted with us for a while which was good fun.

'One stage'? We were in all sorts of trouble at five down! I was a bit bewildered at some of the selections. Vince, for one.

Not a good start to the summer with one of our best players committing career suicide. The mind boggles - it really does.

That was the first of nine games for England this month. Seven games vs Pakistan and then the first WC match vs South Africa. I expect this thread to be busy for the next few months smile

Yes, there was quite a bit of discussion yesterday about Hales. Don't think they really had any other option, appears he was less than truthful when asked by Morgan and others. Silly boy.

Really wish we hadn't screwed up qualifying for the World Cup especially with it being in England. It's a pity we won't be there.

England's 15 man World Cup squad announced.

In:

Jofra Archer
Liam Dawson
James Vince
Tom Curran
Liam Plunkett

Out:

Alex Hales (for obvious reasons)
David Willey
Joe Denly

Of those three, Willey can probably feel hard done by as he was still taking wickets for England.

Eoin Morgan (capt, Middlesex), Moeen Ali (Worcestershire), Jofra Archer (Sussex), Jonny Bairstow (wk, Yorkshire), Jos Buttler (wk, Lancashire), Tom Curran (Surrey), Liam Dawson (Hampshire), Liam Plunkett (Surrey), Adil Rashid (Yorkshire), Joe Root (Yorkshire), Jason Roy (Surrey), Ben Stokes (Durham), James Vince (Hampshire), Chris Woakes (Warwickshire), Mark Wood (Durham).

Yes, tough on Willey (resisted the temptation to repeat "hard") but I'm excited to see what Archer will bring as a newly-minted Englishman.

Day One of the World Cup! We're off at last after what seems to have been an interminable build up.

SA win the toss and insert England. Captaiin Faf oddly decides to opening the bowling with his off spinner. Smart move, because Bairstow was out for a golden duck.

Eng 79-1 after 13 overs.

Captain Faf sounds like a superhero whose power is indecisiveness.
