After finally watching the series, I'm still not thrilled with the music. It doesn't do much of anything, it gets loud when there's action, and soft when we're supposed to feel something. But too often it is just there being exotic and odd. There's a scene in one of the later episodes ( sorry I can't recall which one ) which was a simple dialogue scene, nothing really intense or overly dramatic, and the score was lots of buzzy bubbling synths underneath that didn't do anything at all to help the scene.
I get that at times they want that spaghetti western vibe to sell the vibe they want for the show, but at least for me, the music doesn't work. They should have just gotten Debney or McNeely to do a spaghetti western flavored score - just an all out homage. There's a theme which could be good but it doesn't get enough of a workout to really be a theme.
The music is just really disappointing. And the show itself took 4 or 5 episodes to find some solid footing. The action/shootouts in the first 4 episodes were just awful - no sense of danger or action or suspense. Just point the camera at this guy shooting, then the other guy shooting. The show gets better as it goes, but it was really wobbly for half the season.
I've had this series waiting to be watched for a while now. With series 2 just around the corner, I thought I'd better get a wiggle on. I binged through 6 of them over the past 24 hours. The first 4 were very good, episode 5 was pretty good, and then episode 6 was terrible (the prison ship one). Noticeably, the writing credits for 6 didn't feature Favreau or Filoni (as the previous 5 did) and boy was that obvious. A stupid plot, awful characters doing really dumb things. Just shockingly bad. I left it there, but hopefully, the last two eps will return to form. The music grew on me with each passing ep, although I still found it a bit hit and miss. As is usual for me with LG, the best bits sound like warmed up Bill Conti. I loved the story board end credits sequences at the end of each episode. Really cool. The whole thing has the feel of the SOLO film for me, which is my favourite of the new STAR WARS Disney series. Pretty solid stuff overall so far...7/10.
You don’t consider the Morricone-inspired stuff among the “best bits” Kev? That’s what sticks with me the most. But different strokes and all...I really enjoyed the prison ship episode
Yes Yavar, I did like the lean, spare Morricone/spaghetti bits, as well as the brassy Bill Conti highlights, but for every 5-10 minutes in an episode I did like, the other half can be quite dull and noodly sounding. I've found that to be the case in all the LG scores I've heard so far (apart from TENET, which was 100% terrible).
No CD = no money to Disney from me. I watch the 8 episodes and listen to the 8 scores for nowt. I also noticed DVDs and blu-rays selling on ebay too, so more money stupid Disney are letting go into bootleggers coffers.

YYYYYESSSS!
I mean, no, its not good, but maybe they'll perk up and come to disc-Jesus finally if this is brought to their attention enough.
The Mandalorian score is just awful. Not only because has nothing to do with the Star Wars sound, but also it's the same theme from Creed. Really embarassing.

Strange, my downloads sound differently. Maybe you downloaded CREED twice?
