Besides "The Jungle Book" I really would appreciate releases with music from the classic cartoons. The music alone works fine on FSM's "Tom & Jerry" and Warner Bros.' "Stalling Project". I'd really like to have some of Wallace's, Bruns', Dubin's and Smith's music, especially "Tea for two hundred". That's a funny thing! Disney did it with the "Silly Symphonies" and the cartoons could be the next step. Mickey, Donald and Co. are legends and legacies as well!

About a decade ago there was talks they were going to remaster the shorts and completely re-orchestrate the soundtracks in stereo then release them on the Disney Channel. I guess that never got very far.

Hate to pump this thread with no new news. But just looking over the release schedule for The Legacy Collection titles have come out in 2014, 2015, 2017, and 2018.

So a one year break between releases wasn't out of the norm. But were now two and a half years without a new release.

Though Roger said, Disney is holding onto Mulan and another title I cant remember, can we call this done and over? I just don't think they care one bit about releasing CD's anymore. So perhaps this great series has come to an untimely death? frown

The other title Roger explicitly confirmed Disney's holding onto was The Rescuers.

I don't know whether to be happy or concerned about that. At least there's an implication that they plan to do something with it? I think the Legacy Collection branding is a little hokey anyway. They should just make normal CD releases, no strings attached.

At least ROBIN HOOD happened

It’s not Disney’s best but that album is superb!

Yes, that's a huge one never having a score release of any kind. I'm also extremely thankful for the 90's expansions, Little Mermaid (89?) Beauty and the Beast, Lion King and Pocahontas (which was a big surprise). But there's so many more that need the Legacy Collection treatment.

Huuuuunchbaaaaaack!!!!

Also, Aladdin, duh. Disney's failure to coordinate those soundtrack releases with the live-action remakes shows that poor planning is not limited to their Lucasfilm division...

Don't mean to bump this thread with false hopes. But in case it was missed, Roger said Mulan was planned as a Legacy Collection release. Not saying this is coming, but at least we know it was planned to be a Legacy Collection release at some point in time. Disney is also holding onto Atlantis: the Lost Empire.

I do own some scores lke PETER PAN..ALICE IN WONDERLAND...BAMBI etc.
They are not from The Legacy Collection and my issue with all of them is..they are almost "unlistenable " because of their "mono "sounding quality due to the original recordings..( We need some rerecordings..especially from BAMVI which is such a milestone score in my opinion...)so my question is:
Is the sound quality of those legacy collections of any improvement?

Those scores shouldn't have come out on the Legacy Collection line since none of them were expanded and just reissues of previous releases with some extra demos and such. I don't know if its possible to get better sounding recordings. Probably not considering their age. I totally agree we need re-recordings of the classic Disney scores just like they did with Cinderella.

The late 80's and 90's Legacy Collection scores probably sound the same, but they're newer scores and are as good as they are going to be. But they are greatly expanded over the original OST's.

If you're not able to listen to music recorded in mono, then you're unable to listen to music recorded between 1890 and 1960/70. There is such a wealth of wonderful recordings from that era, in every genre, from every country, continent and civilisation, that the only thing one can do is pity you intensely !

Relax...you dont know what Im listening to..and I don't know when you started getting into scores..I'm not a " rookie"...and I´m mainly into seventies ..sixties etc.
But I admit that some scores from the era before..like eg.THE ADVENTURES OF DON JUAN or the ROY WEBB Collection and others are really not a great listening experience due to the bad original recordings.Same goes with most of the Old Disney scores.
So keep your coolwink

The recordings are what they are. I think Disney did their homework properly back then and I doubt they will sound any better (unless alternate sources are unearthed). I think they tinkered around with the sound a bit, but nothing substantial. I really have my doubts that a 2020 remaster of "Snow White" or "Bambi" would sound better than what we already have. Content is another issue: I don't understand why not all the extant material from "Sleeping Beauty" and all the others has been included. I guess we'll have to wait for the "Very Special Legacy Edition."

Communication within Disney is allegedly terrible, which is a large reason why these releases, "Legacy" or not, have always had problems. There have been multiple cases where true, proper master elements were found and restored for home video releases, but once it came time for the label division to do their work putting those elements on CD, they were provided with the incorrect tapes, leading to releases sourced from completely improper, 2nd generation (though often much later) elements. I know from an insider that the original 90s release of "The Jungle Book" was butchered when the soundtrack producer was provided with mono elements instead of the stereo sessions, which were on loan to the home video division as the film was being remastered. The proper elements have since been remastered and put to use on newer DVD/Blu-ray releases of the film, but haven't come out on CD yet.
Similarly, "Pinocchio" was miraculously discovered to be the only Disney title of its age whose score survives in its entirety, originally found back when the film was being restored for its reissue to theaters in the early 90s - but, once again, the masters provided to the soundtrack division later on were only partial, due to miscommunication. This is a pattern which has affected almost every vintage Disney title released between the 90s-early 2000s, and its affects are still seen to this day, as titles like "Bambi" haven't had a new transfer to CD since its original 90s run. I am inclined to agree that most of these titles could sound much better with a new transfer/remaster, particularly "Bambi", "Dumbo", "Snow White", and the aforementioned "Pinocchio", all of which haven't had a new dedicated transfer for CD in over 20 years. Digital restoration tools have come a long way and have made releases once though impossible a reality ("Bride of Frankenstein" comes to mind).

Many thanks for the insider information. That's really intersting. In particular as "Pinocchio" has been part of the Legacy Collection and didn't get the deluxe treatment.

I was just afraid of the fact that a 2020 re-master would use mastering gimmicks like stereo reverb on mono recordings, odd equalizing and excessive compression.

From my ears I hear extra reverb in the Legacy edition of Pinocchio compared to the 90's release.

Folks longing for a return of the Disney Legacy Collection should give a listen to (at least the first 8 minutes of) the latest Goldsmith Odyssey Soundtrack Spotlight, where Bruce Botnick drops a major bombshell (and we were allowed to keep it in the show!)

Wow, that is really great news! I would have preferred that Rescuers Legacy Edition that had a tracklist leaked over a year ago, but will gladly take Hunchback as I too consider it underrated amongst the Renaissance Era scores from Menken.

I'm greedy, I'll take both!
