MV's reference was not to Mission: Impossible. Which BTW is the longest-gestating album project I've ever been involved with.

Not happening any time soon

Just to be clear, you're referring to The Adventures of Batman & Robin? Man, I was so hopeful it was actually really imminent when it showed up on that poster...

Correct, he clarified in the Mission Impossible thread. No Adventures of Batman and Robin anytime soon.

WELL, we can blame you then.

Mine just arrived today. Fabulous release - everyone's brought their A-game. The liner notes and graphic design are top notch. I've only had a chance to listen to POTA, but it's a substantial improvement over the Varese release which has sounded increasingly muddy to my ears as the quality of modern archival restorations has improved in recent years. I was terribly disappointed when the film's 50th anniversary came and went without a re-release from Varese and I'd figured that the earlier issue might be the final word on this score. Happy to be proven wrong! There's a lot more clarity and punch to the music in this new iteration. It's maybe not quite as much as a sonic leap as ST:TMP or Alien, but it's substantial.

I've always had a special fondness for this unique little franchise and its music. LLL's given this the royal treatment. If you're also a fan, don't hesitate. This is as good as soundtrack releases get!

Worth getting for one correction alone... an ugly dropout that marred the magnificent "The Hunt" in the Planet of the Apes Varese edition has been fixed. It appeared at around 2'29" on my Varese CD. It's the first thing I checked on the new LLL edition. Now perfectly clean :-)

The sound on Planet of the Apes is a "revelation." It finally sounds like it's taking place in a real sound stage. Also there are dynamics -- the ram's horn hits the way I imagine it was intended. At last! Thanks Mike!

Then again, maybe it was suppose to be there like that clang in Williams' DRACULA, and folks will complain that it's been removed.

Then again...

You are probably right!
Another thing I particularly like about the new set is that the recreated 1968 album tracks are now of the exact same sound quality as the main tracks. This means they can be interchanged according to taste without any audio drawbacks. For example, I much prefer the tighter album version of "The Forbidden Zone" which dispenses with about 30 seconds of the film version's repetitive and dull middle section. Same with a couple of other tracks.

You haven't experienced "The Forbidden Zone" until you've heard it in the original German. You're right, the Strauss bit does go on too long:

Any idea when the other online Retailers like Intrada and SAE get their shipments?

Mike Matessino did a magnificent job on the Apes scores. One thing I told him and Neil Bulk while they were working was they could not possibly make the ram's horn too loud in the original POTA. I've never felt it came in strong enough on the previous releases.

But the cover art used for Planet Of The Apes still isn't from that movie?

Interestingly the poster art shown on the back of the package (pictured below) IS the original poster art from the movie....!

Can anyone who's received this confirm which is actually used?

Another great job is being done by La La Land's shipping king, Matt, once and possibly still. Hat tipped if it's him, and tipped toward the mysterious unknown if it is another. I've no reason to order a La La Land CD from another retailer, bar tossing it in with an existing order, but certainly not to more greatly ensure that my discs arrive in great shape. In a shipping box three times the size of the set, perfectly protected by feet of bubble wrap, this beauty arrived, as expected, but never less than impressively, in perfect shape.

While I certainly agree that Mike Matessino and Neil Bulk did a fantastic job on this set, I disagree with your last point about the ram's horn. To my ears, the ram's horn is much more prominent on the Intrada release. I'm guessing it's a completely different take. If not, it would have to be a different mix. On the Varese Sarabande CD and this new release, the miking on the ram's horn sounds distant compared to what I hear on Intrada's "The Hunt". Perhaps someone here could shed some light on what accounts for these differences. I'm just glad to have both of these great "Apes" releases.

I know what you're talking about. It was either a dropout or an "awkward" edit of some sort. I'm sure there was some piecing together of different elements on the Varese CD, and the technology available at the time made it more difficult to make seamless edits.
