Blasted through Series 2 of LOTR THE RINGS OF POWER in no time. Very enjoyable if you like fantasy/Tolkien type stuff. Fantastic production values and music.
Also finished LUDWIG, light fluff BBC comedy/drama, in the vein of JONATHAN CREEK and MIDSOMER MURDERS. Quite repetitive, with a nice series closer that sets up the whole arc while being able to continue what it's been doing week in week out. Quality scoring riffing on LVB.
Bailed on JOAN and SHOWTRIAL cos they looked like torture.
Watched Joan under the belief it was 4 episodes but it's still going. It's OK but it's an 80s set drama with 2024 dialogue. The acting is a bit false n awkward, like Eastenders. The main character can't even go to the bathroom without a Joan Collins style ludicrous outfit n shoulder pads. It's like it's been written n made by 30 year olds who imagine what the 80s were like.
Ripped thru s1 of Sweetpea, black comedy about a bullied mousey girl who starts killing people who wrong her. Gets darker at final ep6.
French thriller on Netflix called The Bureau about French spies is intricate and involved but clever. Clearly whoever wrote it clearly had first hand experience how such a world works.
California Dreamin.. the songs of the Mama's n the Papa's shown on sky arts. Most interesting learning about Cass Elliott and Michelle Phillips and John and Denny.
Poignant story from Michelle that Cass had just sold out 2 nights in a London Show, got a standing ovation and she had rung Michelle to tell her how thrilled she was it had gone so well. Cass died of a heart attack in her sleep that night.
Finished the 6 part comedy/drama/thriller DEXTER'S LITTLE MOUSEY NIECE WITH MASSIVE EYES... Nah, it wasn't really called that. It WAS called SWEETPEA...but it should have been called that. Enjoyable enough, but as it follows the adventures of an unlikely serial killer, things could never end well. Better than most of the stuff I've watched recently, if a tad silly and far-fetched. Interesting score by that lanky girls sister,* VERY effective at times.
I ripped thru that Sweetpea last week Kev. Yeah wasn't bad, turned darker final episode. Reasonable watch. Yeah I too thought this is "frightened mouse turns into female dexter"
I'm trying Industry on BBC, was recommended. I've started with s1. So far ALL the characters are cocky young smug selfish obnoxious trading dealers - and I really couldn't care if they all died from coke overdose - or even a gruesome Edgar Allen Poe type death - but will try it a bit longer.
Penguin still excellent
Walking dead Book of Carole also very good. I've enjoyed all 3 spinoffs.
Joanie, you and mgh have good judgment, Lincoln lawyer is on my list
Thanks. mgh and I are also twins on westerns.
Bill, I read the article you posted. Bosch is on Prime, so if Bosch connects with Haller in season 4, I would think a different actor would play Bosch. That is just speculation on my part.
The Diplomat season 2 will be on Netflix at the end of October. I can't wait. Season 1 had a cliffhanger ending. Season 1 really impressed me, and I hope season 2 is also excellent.
I am watching the new Lincoln Lawyer season on Netflix. Completely over the top and ridiculous, but a lot of fun with some great characters and good humor. A recent episode featured a debate over the origin of the French Dip sandwich, which was entertaining. Especially since I have eaten at one of the restaurants (Phillipe's) that was a part of the debate.
Watched TERRITORY. I liked it. Seems like it was an Australian answer to Yellowstone. Odd to see motorcycles and ATVs herding cattle. Yep, there are cowboys without horses.
I liked season 2 of The Old Man. Needs to be a season 3. I worry that Bridges and Lithgow will wear out at their ages.
I'm enjoying season 2 of The Diplomat. (As usual, great dialogue and lots of twist and turns.)
I watched a British series (a trilogy) called Red Riding 1974, RR 1980, RR 1983.
It was a relentlessly bleak story of a serial killer and police corruption, but it was well-done. Andrew Garfield was exceptionally good. I just wish there had been more justice at the end.
