That would be me too. Did they really not think through this release strategy??

Here's to hoping Lakeshore considers it a "lesson learned" for the next time. :/

Here is the final word on the series by the irrepressible Mr. Plinkett*. One could say he goes medieval on the prissy Picard's bony behind. Enjoy!

* (Occasional strong language, apologies).

Love that montage at the end where it shows the good side of Trek that has persisted throughout the decades of it's existence to... yeah.

Mr. Plinkett, always spot on in his analysis. RLM has an uncanny skill for articulating narrative and structural problems.

In the case of ST: Picard, the problems are on such a scale that it makes the head swim. ST: Picard is so incompetently written and produced that it makes Discovery look brilliant in comparison.

Well, from afar every dumpster fire casts a pleasing glow. But step a little closer and suddenly it hits you, the smell of rank garbage.

Why trash on a legendary character like Jean-Luc Picard when the official website does it for you? Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you the OFFICIAL StarTrek.com article

'THE HUMBLING OF ADMIRAL PICARD'
https://www.startrek.com/news/the-humbling-of-admiral-picard

Let's take a peek, shall we?

On Star Trek: Picard our beloved admiral is forced to reckon with his privilege as a Starfleet officer from a planetary superpower.

Picard's privilidge... No... You're not suggesting that-

While TNG positioned Captain Picard as an ally to marginalized groups, from Klingons to androids, Picard challenges him to check the privilege he’s enjoyed through various series as an able-bodied male Earthling of elevated Starfleet rank. Here are six times Picard called Picard out during Season 1.

And what pray tell are those privileges that Picard has enjoyed that are so damning?

1. Picard is finally getting old
So he's guilty of staying alive? I know looking out for one's self can be seen as selfish, but maybe you can be more specific?

"He’s in no position to save anybody and, in fact, his inability to do so results in Dahj’s untimely death."

Be specific, I mean in a way that matters. I thought it was the evil Romulan spit and a very explosive rifle that killed Dahj, not Picard's age. If you look at the episode, Picard is flung so far away form this explosion that you'd almost assume that the sheer force alone would have killed him before he touched the ground, but nope. He's A-OK a couple of scenes later so score one for depicting the hazards and privilege of old age.

2. Picard is no longer relevant

He's resigned. Why should he care?

Not being relevant is the ultimate slap in the face for high-profile people used to calling the shots.

HE RESIGNED! Again, everything exists thanks to what he and his crew have done over the years. If people are still living, he's still relevant.

3. His resignation wrecked his relationships

Oh, god. You're slamming him on that now? How does resigning ruin relationships?

While he’s been riding out his post-resignation “massive pity party and shame spiral” in luxurious Chateau Picard, Raffi’s been sinking into the depths of humiliation, rage, and substance abuse — something she already struggled with.

*inhales bad stuff* This is all your fault... *Tries to get up but falls off of chair* How could you be so selfish? *Steps on nail* AHHHHH!!!!! You're a walking disease of privilege! *breaks the TV* I hate how you live so comfortably!

You're supposed to be feeling sympathy for me by the way.

4. And he just keeps messing up

We all mess up. Even Spock will admit that nobody's perfect. What did Picard do this time?

Like misguided international aid groups of late 20th-century Earth, Picard and the Federation were guilty of having “no understanding of [the] ingenuity, resolve, and self-sufficiency,” of the people they were trying to save, says former senator, Tenqem Adrev. And then they forgot about them completely.

And here is where the article gleefully showcases how unaware it is at Picard's horrible writing. The Romulan Tenqem is angry at Picard for two reasons. First is not respecting the Romulan's ability as a species to be able to fend for themselves and second... for being abandoned. The damning argument against Picard is "We can take care of ourselves which is why we hated it when you left us to take care of ourselves!".

5. But he’s still organic
As Season 1 concludes, it becomes clear that the ultimate reckoning will be with the arrogance of the folks at the top of the universal hierarchy — organics.

Arrogant organics. Do we tell our readers that this show featured synthetics coaxing another synthetic into opening a portal that would allow satanic killing machines to murder a whole galaxy? It was that easy to do. This so-called arrogance against synthetics doesn't seem all that misplaced when you think of how easily they can murder a whole galaxy, does it?

Alright, alright. What's the last bit of privilege that Picard is guilty of that makes him a horrible person?

6. His friends make him a better person

But bad writers make him a terrible character.

Thanks, Jeyl - those are basically the exact same thoughts I had when reading that startrek.com article.

Those Picard points were bad. But this above one is horrible one:

Don't patronise clever and resourceful peoples by giving them aid, they know their situation better than you.

Why have you stopped giving them aid? Don't you care? These ingenious, resolute people can't save themselves!

Sounds like the Federation can't win.

Picard sounds like a right joyless show. The writing seems horrendous, without much internal logic.

Do they make it up as they go along? Writing the end of the season while still filming the start?

That Star Trek.com article made me fairly nauseous. The ideas she is espousing are pure poison disguised as virtue.

That Star Trek.com article made me fairly nauseous. The ideas she is espousing are pure poison disguised as virtue.

And that's the gist of it. At face value, you can certainly see how progressive this team of writers are in what they've contributed to Star Trek that previous showrunners have always clammored for or 'pretended' to have included in their works. We have an african american woman leading a show, we have a undeniable gay couple and very distinct aliens having development not centered around developing it's lead.

However, you don't need to look that close to understand what kind of attitudes these progressive writers have when watching their work. Instead of having an attitude where prejudice against others is a bad thing, they've simply swapped out one prejudice with another. They are so gosh darn set on making sure the under-represented groups get their spotlight that they're willing to tear down and shame others for no other reason than to express how much they detest people who, by race have mistreated others in the past.

As you said in your post, they think they're being virtuous but they're far more mean spirited than they realize, even going so far as to call out certain individuals who fit in the under-represented group. Ever heard of Walter Mosley? He joined Star Trek: Discovery's writers group who were going to head Season 3 of Discovery. He told a story about his experiences in Los Angeles and it involved usage of the N word. One of the writers who was present in the room reported this to one of the higher ups anonymously and Mosley was told he was not allowed to use that word around the other writers. Understandably, he left.

Remember, these are the folks who are writing the new Star Trek, a franchise that had this exchange half a century ago.

LINCOLN: What a charming negress. Oh, forgive me, my dear. I know in my time some used that term as a description of property.
UHURA: But why should I object to that term, sir? You see, in our century we've learned not to fear words.

And you know what stinks? These are most likely the same group of people who championed the use of excessive profanity use in Star Trek. Ugh.

"Writers rooms, you will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy."

You do realize that any TV show you've ever enjoyed had a writer's room? Just wondering, based on the the hyberolic generalization of your statement.

Honestly, I don't even know why you and a few others continue to post in this thread. We get it. You didn't like Picard. Many of us did. Not everything is made to please you, get used to it. Move on to something else you actually like.

Sadly, that's the case.
Producer Akiva Goldsman recently confirmed that in an interview when he stated the pandemic lockdown has a positive side-effect; that they are able to go back to earlier scripts to refine the setups, because it's much easier to write them once the payoff is written as well.

...

NO KIDDING!!!!

Reminds me a bit of an anekdote of composer Mark Snow who stated in one of the liner notes from the X-Files releases that he usually started with composing the music for the last act, pretty much for the same reason.
Smart man.

Valid points. The show is joyless. It would have been nice if Picard had had some positives in his latter life. Wish the show's writers could come half way, instead of going full throttle with their beliefs.

Returning to the score:

I was eagerly downloading the first release (9,99) and then had to find out that a more complete edition (also for 9,99) was released a few weeks later.

Damn, now I would have to pay these 9,99 again just to get the first release tracks AND the others, too? Why not release two different sets, vol.1 and 2?
