Did you read the end of the thread? People use the weather as a disguise for political discussion, which was obviously happening in that thread in the last couple posts. Thank last night's participants for getting a longrunning thread closed.
Yeah, I read the thread a second time and realized that's what caused it. If someone does the same here, I'm hoping you can perhaps remove the posts in question instead of locking it. It's so sad when long-running, "regularly updated" threads are closed forever because of such things.
So back to WEATHER!!
The snow depicted above -- heart patterns or no heart patterns -- turned into ice today, literally making the whole city an ice rink! Demanded concentration when walking, for sure.
We should get our first flurries of the year here today -- I think Sandy brought some snow, but it was all mixed in with copious rainfall so didn't count.
Very cloudy. Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for most the day. Off and on precip.
*****SPOILER ALERT****** Outcome... One snow flake will fall and everyone will run to the store and get toilet paper, bread and milk. Can I just say... what a stupid combination of items.
Toilet paper... Are they expecting to have issues?
Bread... No peanut butter? Or any other thing to make it a sandwich?
Milk... No cereal? How about water?
Why do I say this? I can see a Safeway from where I live. It is packed.
Wow, people are so suspicious! Or maybe just cranky. Anyway, the weather here is beautiful right now - clear skies, mid-70s, no chance of rain in sight. According to the forecast it won't get over 74F or below 62F all week. Fall in Southern California is all right with me.
I feel sorry for those who are having to put up with rain & snow & ice now although we've certainly had our share of rain in years past.
I'm currently in my hometown in the South of Norway, and yesterday was really nasty here, weather-wise. An Antarctica-style blizzard and TONS of snow. Fortunately, it calmed down today into a gentle snow fall, making the whole town look like a winter wonderland. Just in time for Christmas Eve!
Right now, however, it's raining (temperatures hover around 0 C), so I can expect a LOT of "slush" tomorrow. I hate that.
Right now it is snowing, we will get about 3 to 5 inches, but just enough to make it a White Christmas.As a kid i would have loved this scenorio. I hope the youth are enjoying it.
We went from a nice first early week of spring with temperatures ranging between 14°C and 17°C last week, to a cold cringing -2°C today with again more snow and frost ahead. I'm done with winter but it isn't done with me.
Winter hasn't let go since October last year up here. Still very cold (below 0 almost every day), and snow still keeps coming. I won't expect spring to arrive untill May.
Oh for Christ's sake, people! Only 12 posts from when the moderator explained that trying to be cute about politics in a WEATHER thread is what got the LAST one closed.

Here in Arizona, it's an absolutely lovely spring with temps in mid 70s (F) and clear skies. Great hiking weather and the wildflowers should be coming soon.

I'm in the south-east of the country. The day started with light flurries of snow. Actually, it pretty much lasted all day. The weather at my workplace, which is more to the north, escaped the swathe of snow which later carpeted the south covering the area of home.
So when I left work for home I had no idea just what an ordeal was about to begin. I was actually very lucky. It only took me three and a quarter hours to get back. Some people have spent upwards of 10 hours stranded in their cars. I abandoned the usual route when traffic came to a standstill. The alternate route was no better. The problem was the roads had not been gritted and any inclines caused major problems for cars losing traction on the ice. I got fed up sitting in the car at such an incline. On noticing that there were only 3 vehices in front of me (I had thought the tailback was for miles because nothing had moved for about an hour) I got back in the car and gunned it up and around the lead vehicles. Once over the rise there was nothing in front of me. It was clear of vehicles onwards. But the roads have been absolutely treacherous. The same can be said of the councils we pay to do absolutely nothing or, at best, too little too late.
