MONDAY, JULY 22

TWISTERS---the movie beat expectations with an impressive $80.5 million domestic premiere weekend.
Director Lee Isaac Chung said the movie's final scene had a kiss between Glen Powell and Daisy Edgar-Jones which was deleted based on producer Steven Spielberg's note, “I feel like audiences are in a different place now in terms of wanting a kiss or not wanting a kiss. I actually tried the kiss, and it was very polarizing – and it’s not because of their performance of the kiss. This [no-kiss shot] was the other option that I had filmed on the day, and I got to say, ‘I like it better. I think it’s a better ending.’
If it ends on the kiss, then it makes it seem as though that’s what Kate’s journey was all about – to end up with a kiss. But instead, it’s better that it ends with her being able to continue doing what she’s doing with a smile on her face.”
Edgar-Jones said, “I think it’s a Spielberg note, wasn’t it? I think it stops the film feeling too clichéd, actually. I think there’s something really wonderful about it feeling like there’s a continuation. This isn’t the end of their story. They’re united by their shared passion for something.”
Powell added, “I feel like a kiss would be sort of unrepresentative of the right goal at the end of the movie. And it is a good Spielberg note. It’s why that kid is still in this game. It’s amazing.”

PRESSURE---Brendan Fraser will play Gen. Dwight D. Eisenhower in the D-Day movie whose synopsis says, “In the 72 hours leading up to D-Day, all the pieces are in place except for one key element — the British weather. Britain’s Chief Meteorological Officer James Stagg is called upon to deliver the most consequential forecast in history, locking him into a tense standoff with the entire Allied leadership. The wrong conditions could devastate the largest-ever seaborne invasion, while any delay risks German intelligence catching on. With only his trusted aide Captain Kay Summersby to confide in, and haunted by a catastrophic D-Day rehearsal, the final decision rests with Supreme Allied Commander Dwight D. Eisenhower. With only hours to go, the fate of the war and the lives of millions hang in the balance.”

STAR WARS: THE ACOLYTE---showrunner Leslye Headland commented on if she has heard there will be Season 2, "Nothing."
She added, “You have to take a break. Especially after something like this. I don’t even know how many years my brain has been going, STAR WARS, STAR WARS, STAR WARS, ACOLYTE, ACOLYTE, ACOLYTE – just constantly solving problems, constantly thinking about it.
It is very weird to now be in a place where I don’t need to do that. I always say to budding writers, ‘The most important thing that you can do is sit around and do nothing. Because the second you start to manufacture a story, you’re going to get stressed out, and the story can’t start that way.'”
Headland said a Season 2 would include more of the Republican Senate, “A generation or two generations have gone by since the Nihil. There was a lot of drama, so it was just logical to me that there would be more of this button-down [idea]: ‘We’re trying to avoid the mistake. Let’s limit the power. Let’s do that before someone asks us to.’ And it was just logical to me to show Vernestra as the bridge for that.”

SPIDER-MAN 3---Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige said director Jon Watts is not returning for the new sequel, “We love Jon. Jon did three of the best Spider-Man films ever for us. He’s got lots of things going on now. So we’ll probably be looking for somebody else, just because he’s busy.”

SPAWN---the official title for the reboot movie starring Jamie Foxx is KING SPAWN. The synopsis says, “NYPD detective Twitch Williams investigates a series of grisly murder scenes, perpetrated by the mysterious supernatural vigilante Spawn."

JURASSIC WORLD---the title for the reboot movie starring Scarlett Johansson is reportedly JURASSIC WORLD: REBIRTH.

NOBODY 2---Bob Odenkirk and Sharon Stone will star in the sequel to the 2021 movie. No plot details were released.

THIS IS SPINAL TAP 2---Rob Reiner commented on the status of the sequel, “It’s going good. Our first screening for our family and friends will be probably in August. And then sometime in September, we’ll start showing it to distributors, and we’re hoping to have it out sometime late spring or early summer of next year.”

SUITS: L.A.---NBC ordered the spinoff series starring Stephen Amell, who plays high-powered Los Angeles attorney Ted Black.

MY ADVENTURES WITH SUPERMAN---Adult Swim announced Season 3 is underway.

TRIVIA---Ray Harryhausen's 20 MILLION MILES TO EARTH includes the classic battle between the Venusian Ymir and a Rome zoo elephant. Ironically, the Ymir's roar is really an elephant's roar that was sped up and modulated at different pitches and rates.

Now a consensual kiss between a man and a woman is degrading?! WTF! This from a Director who had his protagonist lasso whip a female and pulled her in for the kiss! LMFAO!!!!

But a kiss might have made or broke a sequel that nobody asked for and will be forgotten in a few years.

In the sequel the male shall not give eye contact.

Wow! On the other hand, not surprising coming from the largest collection of perverts on the Planet. The cognitive dissonance in their freaking tiny minds must be deafening.

If it wasn't for their inconsistency, they'd have no consistency at all.

I don't interpret it that way. He didn't say it was degrading, the literal text is:
“I feel like audiences are in a different place now in terms of wanting a kiss or not wanting a kiss. I actually tried the kiss, and it was very POLARIZING – and it’s NOT because of their performance of the kiss."
I see that as some may not like the cliché ending that it always has to end in romance explicitly. I for one hate those endings. So many times I wish that the protagonists would just part ways as people who respect each other but have no further involvement. I don't want everyone to "team up". Many times the next film is about them having split up in between sequels. I appreciate distance, both in real life and in film.

Isn’t the whole film cliched? So the fact that one thing, showing affection between a man and a woman is what bothered them says a lot.

Yes, what we need relationship realism in Twister films with flying cows, houses crossing the road, and where sheer willpower and arm strength alone will keep a twister from sucking you in.

Yep, a kiss would ruin their strong character arcs in such a thought provoking film.

Fake, unrealistic, fantasy etc. or not:
- I just don't like films having their leads automatically team up, it's been done beyond death for almost a century by now.
- a film that has the leads go their separate ways has a plus for me. It may even be the only good thing about the film.

I appreciate I am not the target audience for The Acolyte having ceased to be interested in the Lucasfilm franchise decades ago, but man alive I found that show boring.

Funny I just watched an anime movie called "Macross: Do You Remember Love?" Its about an alien race who's at war with the opposing sex because they lost their "culture". This is where we've been heading thanks to Hollywood. I prefer love not war.
