THE LAST OF US---Episode 2 drew 5.7 million viewers which was a 22% increase over Episode 1 and the, “largest week 2 audience growth for an HBO Original drama series in the history of the network.” Also, co-creator Neil Druckmann commented on fan criticism about the show's differences from the video game, "I’ve learned to expect backlash from sneezing. I think it speaks to the kind of fans that we have, who are so protective and love the world and these characters so much that anything they see as a deviation, without the full context of what it means, they assume the worst and push back on it. I think that addition is something worthwhile. It’s actually one of those additions where I’m like, 'Oh man, I wish we had it for the game. I wish we had thought of it years ago, because I love it so much.'"

ACCUSED---the Fox crime anthology series premiere drew a record 8.4 million viewers.

M&M---Mars, Inc. announced it has discontinued its M&M animated "spokescandy" characters after a deluge of consumer complaints that the new characters were too woke. Mars has replaced the spokescandies with Maya Rudolph.

OLD GUY---Christoph Waltz will star in this comedy movie about a retired assassin who is hired by his former employer to team up with a young, obnoxious Gen-Z assassin to kill the leaders of a competing crime syndicate only to discover the real purpose of their mission. Simon West is the director.

VIOLENT NIGHT 2---director Tommy Wirkola confirmed the sequel is underway with the original creative team returning, "We’ve been talking about where we want to take it and what we want to see. There is stuff we left on the floor like the North Pole, Mrs. Claus, the elves, but story-wise I think we have a really, really cool idea that expands on the world and scope but still keeping that tone that we love from the first one.”

MEGALOPOLIS---Giancarlo Esposito has joined the cast of the Francis Ford Coppola movie that also stars Adam Driver, Jon Voight, Laurence Fishburne and Dustin Hoffman.

WILDCAT---Ethan Hawke will direct his daughter, Maya Hawke, in this movie about writer Flannery O'Connor. Laura Linney and Vincent D'Onofrio also star.

TRIVIA---Sigourney Weaver was paid $35,000 for ALIEN. After the huge success of the original movie, Weaver was paid $1 million and a percentage of the profits for the hit sequel ALIENS.

I heard about that M&M's shit this morning. They are arrogant and refuse to admit they caused the problem. The characters were fine they way they were, but the company wanted to make them woke. De-woke-afy them and the problem with the characters will resolve. Nope, instead they hired a live-action woke-ateer. They replaced a problem with another problem, and eliminated popular characters at the same time. Who hear doesn't still kind of enjoy seeing the really old commercials of the two male M&M's encountering Santa?

I would say the marketing campaign to get M&M's at the forefront of the public's minds has been a rousing success.

Yeah, nice way to kill a marking campaign that's been very successful for decades.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

The complaints mentioned earlier, suggest the forefront is made up of people who now have a negative impression of the product and have or will stop buying it.

A campaign and being in people's minds isn't necessarily a good thing. Enron was in the forefront of people's mind many years back, for example.

My point is, a marketing campaign isn't just to increase profits--it's also to get your product TALKED about.
(Which usually leads to profits.)

"There's no such things as bad publicity" and all that.

People who fight tooth and nail to pretend to care about animated candy advertising are the problem.

I thought she was paid $14 million? I could have sworn that number was mentioned in the making of documentary.

Sure a lot of culture war outgrage is fake. But there is a culture war and that is real.

What cultures are at battle, may I ask? How many casualties? "Culture war" is a media buzz word to keep you plugged in, angry, and consuming.

Maybe there was a huge outcry and gnashing of teeth, but I don't recall it actually being an issue that was discussed or newsworthy, aside from an occasional casual mention of it as " oh by the way" filler item more than anything.

Please explain to me why the newly designed characters are considered to be "woke." I don't get it.

I want very much to post a pic of those sexy ladies' workout short that have the M&M's logo on them, but I don't want to set anyone off.

M & M Mars is one of the biggest privately owned companies. So they weren’t listening to shareholders.

The spokescandies will be back. If you go to a M&Ms store, 90% of the merchandise has these characters in some form or other. M&M Mars will wait a bit for the current nonsense to blow over and manufactured outrage has shifted to another non-issue.

I'm very excited to see what the next non-issue shall be, as I didn't even have "outraged over what shoes a CGI candy is wearing" on my Outrage Culture bingo card.
