If said toys are from a specific long-ago era, they are expensive because the oldsters who still(!) buy that stuff allegedly have the disposable income to throw down hard dough for the nostalgia-inducing relics of their long-dead youth. Plus, those wizened people are a captive audience of sorts: for example, not many non-Boomers have much of an interest in, say, Gunsmoke merchandise.
There's a specially designed, manufactured and license product that's not going to sell a lot, so even more profit is put upon it to make up for the loss.
My suggestion: White Play-Doh and paint. ;-)
(by the way, if it's yellow, is it called "Play-D'oh!"?)

I know some figures are of high quality, but seems to me there is a big market for this stuff. Sell them at $65 dollars instead of $250 and you would sell millions of copies instead of a thousand.
Even if I was rich I wouldn't spend $93 dollars on two inches of plastic. I'd learn how to 3D print first!

In theory yes, but adults today don't have the disposable income adults of 40 years ago had.

At the risk of sounding like Ford Thaxton--oops, too late--those items are priced according to what the market will bear; if you don't want to pay those prices or are unable to pay those prices then you'll have to learn to do without.
Forget Grown Up toys!!! Have you seen the price of LEGO!!!??? I'm goin bankrupt here keepin the G-Kids in the stuff!! Ninjago!! Marvel!! DC!! Star Wars!! All Lego stuff they love and play with for hours, while I starve in the corner!!

Besides, you don't need that garbage anyway.
Well there's lots of stuff I have to do without nowadays and not just toys and soundtracks. But your probably right regarding this stuff.

Remember the famous Aurora Monsters model kits. Lets say it was $1.49 in 1969, according to inflation it would cost $10.42 today. Yet similar model kits today costs $50 plus dollars.

Back in the 60's I think the Aurora monster model kits sold in the millions. Today a similar model kit sells less than a hundred thousand copies. (That's one large football stadium full of ppl)

What do old Aurora kits sell for now? If they're anything like those also-sold-in-the-millions Star Wars dolls action figures, their prices must be through the roof. Even "loose" (uncarded) action figures in rotten condition go for a small bundle o' dough these days.
