I always interpreted that scene as the troopers burned the homestead whilst the Lars' were still inside but now that I'm thinking about it, that doesn't make sense because how could a charred skeleton crawl halfway out of a building?

This scene is troubling for several reasons.
Yes, if that was the intended impression it is troubling. I just assumed the troopers killed them, then burned them and the place to cover their work and make it look like the Sandpeople did it.

Kenner/Hasbro actually did come out with a 12-inch Panda Baba that had a detachable arm back in the 90's. They also bestowed upon children a 3 3/4 inch Bespin-fatigues Luke with a detachable hand. (Same with Vader, but at least his was supposed to be electronic at this point...)

You're probably right....but I still think that was the most brutal act (shown or implied) by Stormtroopers in the original trilogy. Imagine if they had taken that work ethic to Endor?
