I've been on a huge metal kick lately, picking up all kinds of crazy awesome stuff from then and now.
Curious to see and hear what my fellow FSMetalheads are listening to...
NP: Obituary ~ Cause of Death (1990)

That was a good one, James Murphy on guitar (he was great on Spiritual Healing, too). I still have my old Obituary, Suffocation, Death, Morbid Angel albums. Bathory.
My s.o. was playing Devourment "Butcher the Weak" earlier, he's always trying to get me back into Metal.As for Devourment, I thought it was kind of disappointing after Molesting the Decapitated.
I still like Metal, I've just been so in love with Concert and Film music over the years (both writing and listening) that I rarely hear it anymore. I should mention, I did like that last Nile album (and most of the ones before it).

Kindred spirits on different journeys with intersecting paths. After immersing myself in film and concert music, sacred, classical, jazz and opera over the past umpteen years, rediscovering metal and digging into all of this new and old stuff (most of which I'd never heard before) was like finding an oasis in the desert. It ignited a flame within me that had long been dormant, and I've been stoking the hell out of it. I'm not familiar with Devourment or Nile. I'll check 'em out.
NP: The Sword ~ Gods of the Earth (2008) - Groove-heavy, stoner/doom metal out of Austin, TX. This is the only album of theirs I've heard so far. Nothing mind blowing, but I dig it.

Mercyful Fate ~ Don't Break the Oath (1984)
Picked this up last month, my introduction to King Diamond. Wild, wonderful stuff. I can't help but hear a little bit of Robert Smith in his voice sometimes, which is hilarious in a "what if..." sorta way. The Cure and me go way back.

That's one of my favorite Metal albums. I'm not sure if you remember Arthur Brown (a very colourful character wayyy back), but he was the biggest influence on King Diamond (vocalist/songwriter).
If you really like that one try "Melissa" which is easily as good. Plus, King's "Abigail" which is like a heavy metal opera. King's voice has so much range he does all the parts. All excellent Metal imo.

Exhumed ~ Death Revenge (2017)
Picked this up last week at an FYE store in a local shopping mall. Just like old times. Love live B&M!

If you like Exhumed, you've GOT to see them live. I saw them open for Cannibal C. back a few years ago, and they were even better than CC.

Have you guys heard Hell? Their two albums Human Ramains and Curse and Chapter are some of the best satanic heavy metal I have heard. Quite theatrical they have clean vocals and dark themes. Some excellent guitar work there.
They are good! I wouldn't mind seeing them live.

I'd love to. Back in '96 I saw Cannibal Corpse with Anthrax, Life of Agony and The Misfits (sans Danzig, of course) at a small venue here in San Diego. That was a killer show, though at the time I was more interested in LOA and The Misfits than CC and Anthrax. If I saw the same line-up today, it would be the opposite.
I really liked the first two Life of Agony albums, especially the first. After that I got lost.
Josh, I think you'd REALLY like to go see Exhumed, they put on a fantastic show. Highly recommended.

It was okay (basically the same song played with minor variations, with a seriously cool distorted sound on the guitars). But a big disappointment after the genre-defining Molesting the Decapitated.
I should mention, every time I hear Devourment I feel like putting on Effigy of the Forgotten or Killing on Adrenaline instead. I like them a lot better, and they obviously influenced Devourment imo.
