...Is that they just sound like a broken record.' I hate Zimmer because he has ruined film music! ', ' I hate Zimmer because his music doesnt sound like what i listened to when i was a kid during the seventies! ', ' I hate Zimmer because he is not John Williams! '.

You know i have my favourite composers, Goldsmith, Williams, Horner, Tyler, Giacchino, and YES! Mr Zimmer is in there as well.I also have composers that i do not care for so i just do not listen to their music, whinge about it on a message board, or like YOR, troll this site with endless threads about why i dislike a composer.

So if you dont like Hans Zimmer, thats fine.Just dont buy his music and instead concentrate on what you DO like.Oh and while im here, i will say that even though Williams Superman score is one of my all time favourites, i really enjoyed Zimmers Man Of Steel score and its by far my favourite score of the year thus far.

Peace.

It is that 'favorite score of the year' bit that sets me off.

I mean - of the whole year!

______________

Yor does go a bit overkill, but he has the right to express himself, and he is sometimes funny.

His success surpasses his excellence, therein likes the rub with Zimmer.

I thought Man of Steel was pants! Score and film.

There's a lot I don't like about Zimmer but none of it is personal and it's all been said before.

What I'm basically saying is that I don't hate him and except for a tiny minority I doubt many non-Zimmer fans here hate him either. Why anyone could have hatred for a musician who gives a lot of pleasure to many people is beyond me.

Why does this thread put the phrase 'illegal entrapment' into my mind?

'Somebody gone fishin'?

And The Lone Ranger is one of the best scores for some time. Wonderful.

I agree. The Lone Ranger was a decent score and a good fun listen.

It goes both ways.

Yeah, the whole "I hate Zimmer" thing gets boring, I agree with you.

But so does the "The problem with Zimmer haters" thing too.

Why can't we just accept that Zimmer is film music Marmite and move on?

Or are people still sore that not everyone loved Man Of Steel?

Given his and RCP's effect on the modern scoring landscape, I think the "HZ ruined film music" - while a misleading sensationalist title - is a valid debate.

The film sucked and blowed, which I didn't think possible. To be honest, I didn't really pay heed to the music. Most of Zimmer's music sounds much the same to me, almost interchangeable from film to film so I just let it pass without notice. Certainly wouldn't like to sit in the house listening to one of his scores on CD.

You're lucky Yor is banned, he would wreak havoc with this threadwink

When Zimmer ceases to bore and irritate me, I will stop complaining about him. Sound fair?

Maybe the real problem with Zimmer haters is redundancy.

Exactly.
What was the point of scratcing this particular scab in the first place? Was it to keep the scar freshly bleeding?
Did someone hate on Zimmer in another thread lately?

Maybe the real problem with Zimmer haters is redundancy.

Which, taken all together, leads us to the mega-question here: Who is/are more redundant -- Zimmer or those who (are said to) hate him??? Speaking as one who has no Zimmer scores in his collection, allow me to state for the record that I find Hans Zimmer, the man, to be a bright, witty and interesting guy. I could listen to him all day!

Whatever anybody thinks of his music, the man himself seems to be a real gent, and is a blast to listen to in interviews.

That occurred to me as well. Does it not then become an issue of cause and effect?

Or, chicken vs. egg perhaps?

What does it matter? I love Horner yet read endless self plagiarizing rants. Doesn't bother me at all. I don't need to defend Horner or my love for his music.
