My amusement at two people complaining about a nom de plume, themselves using nom de plumes, cannot be overstated. His actual name is Fil Eisler (I SEE WHAT HE DID THERE) so perhaps he just wanted to prevent people mispronouncing his last name? Who knows, who cares? It's good, effective music and I'm happy a CD exists for me to buy.

The difference is that I am not putting out a product here. If I put out a book, score or film I would not call myself 'ado'. So the amusement that I use an alias and talk about a composer using a gimmick name is itself pretty silly. The other point is that almost everyone here uses an alias, for lots of reasons, to remain insulated from whack jobs etc. The few people I have done trades with know my name. Since iZLER is known, has a agent, a wiki page, etc, he is not anonymous, not does he want to be.

I am really tired of Hollywood gimmick names. This one really stinks. I mean, you are a composer, you do not really need a cool name. Maybe at one time this was required in Hollywood, still mostly only for actors. And what is the point of the lower case i? Gimmick It works for him. What's the problem? Why look so hard for annoyance? Fake names are common in show business. Many feel they need a catchy name to cut through the clutter, with hundreds fighting for the same few jobs. The co-creator of "Will & Grace" is a guy named Max Mutchnick… but he was born Jason Mutchnick. He thought "Max Mutchnick" sounded like a comedy name, and that's how he wanted to present himself. Composer Joey Newman's father's last name is Carollo. He used his mother's name to associate himself with the Newman family of composers (of which he is legitimately a descendant). Frank De Vol often used just "De Vol." What of it? I am less bothered by using a maiden name, family name, than the single word name. It lacks dignity. There is a very small line between cool and tacky, and one word names, GAGA, often fall into silly and tacky. Beyond that, be proud of your proper name. So you are saying I am really really wrong to not like single word names. ?

I'm just saying that I think there are legitimate strategic reasons for somebody to choose to use a brand name, as iZLER has chosen to do. I prefer this name to Junkie XL, composer of this week's "Paranoia" and next year's "300: Rise of an Empire." I have to assume that's a two-word name you're not loving?

Some guy named Junkie XL is scoring 300 Rise of an Empire? They would be better off bringing back Tyler Bates.
