Obviously, we all have our own preferences, but it's sure hard to argue with any of these.

A great list for sure. Personally, I'd replace Sunset Boulevard with John Barry's 'Somewhere In Time' which has such a great Varese rerecording, but that's just me.

Of course I would instantly replace Planet of the Apes, much as I love it, with almost any other Goldsmith score of that era, but I would really replace it with The Best Years of Our Lives - instantly.

Would have done the same, but bumped POTA up one and bumped SUNSET down one and replaced it with a John Williams (STAR WARS, E.T., JAWS). Also, SPARTACUS is a great score, but I would not personally put it at #1. I believe in this case it is a sales pitch, note their release information at the end (still can not sell all the copies of the beast). I would put BEN-HUR at #1, but that is my personal taste.

I think we all agree that this is Robert Townson's list. I don't think anybody is telling Townson what he should or shouldn't like. We're just giving our own opinions on the scores he's chosen.

Oh, you saw him on Ventura and Laurel Canyon today hawking those CDs? I almost bought one.

This was an ad for Varese, right? Well-known films and while the piece admits they are all from the Varese label, I still think it's a "commercial" for them:
"(Varese Sarabande’s 2010 release included 6 CDs, 1 DVD and an 168-page booklet, including two CDs devoted to “Spartacus Love Theme,” with variations by Carlos Santana, Bill Evans, and Ramsey Lewis, and Alexandre Desplat, as well as a new Lee Holdridge arrangement featuring flautist Sara Andon)."

I love PLANET OF THE APES, especially for its stainless steel mixing "boards." With so many unusal instruments, not any mixing board would do.
I just hope that if they ever do a reissue, the mixing boards aren't missing.
Ahem.
