Since I'm sure some people at Varese (and at least Michael Mattesino and Nick Redman, who work with them a lot) read this board, I thought I would start a discussion/vote for what titles Varese controls in perpetuity we'd all like to see them release Deluxe Editions for (hopefully remastered and complete, ie. not DEs like The Matrix). What say you all? There are a lot of great scores Varese released in the 90s (including older scores) which we can only get (legal) complete editions of from them. They must be listening some because ever since Die Hard 2 DE, our wish lists have been slowly but steadily shrinking as they Deluxify more and more of their perpetuity titles. Here's my list: John Barry: Year of the Comet (unused) Marco Beltrami: Terminator 3 Elmer Bernstein: The Field and Frankie Starlight are two of my favorites! John Debney: Dragonfly, The Scorpion King, Paulie (a lot of this great and overlooked score is unreleased) Georges Delerue: Black Robe, Man Trouble, A Show of Force, Rich in Love... Patrick Doyle: Carlito's Way, all the way! Cliff Eidelman: Now and Then, A Simple Twist of Fate, Free Willy 3 (hopefully in a Karate Kid style box set with complete releases for the two great Poledouris scores as well), Triumph of the Spirit (really needs improved sound), Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, and most of all Christopher Columbus: The Discovery (his longest, most epic score and his magnum opus if he's got one!) Danny Elfman: Real Steel and Pee-Wee's Big Adventure (a reissue with the complete original score and the rerecording remastered would be nice) George Fenton: Final Analysis Elliot Goldenthal: Demolition Man...and most of all, SPHERE! Jerry Goldsmith: Medicine Man, Angie, The 13th Warrior (perhaps with Revell's rejected score?), the Flint scores, The Mephisto Waltz...Ah, who am I kidding, I'd buy ANY complete Goldsmith releases, even Mr. Baseball! Lee Holdridge: Mists of Avalon James Horner: Brainstorm (complete original recording; Varese still controls this because of the re-recording they commissioned and released) James Newton Howard: The Sixth Sense, The Happening Trevor Jones: Merlin Jan Kaczmarek: Bliss, Unfaithful Michael Kamen: Hudson Hawk Henry Mancini: Switch Joel McNeely: Terminal Velocity, Gold Diggers, Soldier John Powell: X-Men III: The Last Stand Basil Poledouris: Hot Shots Part Deux, It's My Party Zbigniew Preisner: The Secret Garden (so much of this great score is unreleased!) David Raksin: Forever Amber (arguably his greatest score) Graeme Revell: Power Rangers (1995), Street Fighter Alan Silvestri: The Quick and the Dead Howard Shore: M Butterfly, The Fly (assuming they still control it...and why not throw in Chris Young's The Fly 2, complete and remastered) Michael Small: Mobsters, Wagons East! Shirley Walker: Memoirs of an Invisible Man Christopher Young: The Dark Half I know that's a lot, but it's really just a start. What scores (either ones I've mentioned or ones I haven't) would you be most likely to buy? Let's let Varese know that they're sitting on a goldmine so they should start getting some of this stuff out to us! Yavar

I just wish for a new release of the beautiful soundtrack of Hope and Glory and deluxe releases of Predator 2 and Sphere.

Do Williams' Dracula, Jaws 2 and The Eiger Sanction fall under the "in perpetuity" list? I'm surprised that, if they are available, none of the other labels have jumped on them. I'm not positive but I don't think so. I don't know why they haven't been jumped on yet but there may be other issues at stake. Yavar

The 'issues' might be John Williams himself, since it's been reported he has nixed a release of SUGARLAND EXPRESS and edited the HOOK expansion down, excising music and demos some fans would love to hear.

Yeah, I know about that list and it's helpful to include here, but it only has 16 confirmed titles in perpetuity and 20 suspected ones listed. Also, I started this new thread as more of a wishlist directed at Varese, which that other thread really isn't exactly. And I for one wouldn't mind *new* DEs of the first and third Omen scores or The Matrix, but I really doubt Varese will give any titles a *second* Deluxe Edition pass... Yavar

What's funny about this thread is, basically what you are all saying is, release ALL of these in expanded or for another run, lol. How do we know these OFFICIALLY lie with VS? I don't work there, I guess one of you two may

Re: JW's clout. I can see The Sugarland Express, but Jaws? Shouldn't that be too big? On the other hand, it might explain why Jaws 3-D (Alan Parker) had no trouble. Not a bad guess, though the resistance would be curious.

What about Georges Delerue's A SHOW OF FORCE (1990)? It was released on the Varese owned Coliseum label. Delerue wrote over an hour of music and the current album only has 34 minutes. That's a great idea Maleficio, and I'm sorry I forgot Delerue! After all Varese released most of his final American scores, including his final score, Rich in Love (LESS than 28 minutes on their album!) Another composer I overlooked was Joel McNeely (ie. fun scores like Iron Will and Gold Diggers...) Any other composers I missed that people can think of? Yavar

You're right, and also Terminal Velocity! Oh and by Delerue: Black Robe! I think they also put out some worthy George Fenton scores in the early 90s... And for something completely different, how about a complete and remastered Army of Darkness (LoDuca with Elfman)? Fairly complete list of Varese titles here (just remember to look for ones to new films from '89/'90 onwards): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Varese_Sarabande#VC_.2F_VX_Series Yavar

I updated the first post in this thread because Varese has actually given us expanded (complete?) versions of two excellent scores they hold rights to in perpetuity: Barry's Peggy Sue Got Married and Silvestri's Predator 2! Now we can only hope they do more of these on a more regular basis...still, let's be grateful for what we have, right? (Now...shall we all start chanting "Starship Troopers" in ever thread since it worked with Predator 2?) Yavar P.S. I'm must confess I'm a little disappointed there was no expanded Fedora. I'm not sure what if anything is missing but I do know for a fact they chose not to release the (surviving) film tracks to Rozsa's Eye of the Needle and simply decided to reissue their earlier album (a rerecording) for that...this feels a little similar and I want some Rozsa Deluxe Editions, dangit!

I'd welcome many a handful of those you listed, but with today's Predator 2, my top 3 major wishlist of DE's is down to 2. Terminal Velocity and Demolition Man. Everything else is just gravy.
