Very cool assignment for sure. George Bruns' score to the original animated Sleeping Beauty is one of my all-time favourites. Although I liked Snow White, I hope JNH keeps aside the synths/electronics and produces a purely orchestral score this time.

Yep, that would be interesting. But I personally think the subject matter of this movie would be better suited by a grand, old-fashioned symphonic score. I wouldn't mind JNH scoring the Tron sequel (if any), though.

What George Bruns did was to adapt Tchaikovsky.
I'm sure Mr. Howard's contribution will be more in his own style.
(BTW: should anyone be interested, JNH is also scoring the new M.Night Shyamalan film, AFTER EARTH, which I will go see, because I have liked many of his previous films, and have loved most of JNH's scores for them.)

I'm glad that a very talented composer has got the job, and the score undoubtedly has great potential. However...
Not to be overly negative but I feel JNH has been phoning it in a little for the last couple of years, composing merely serviceable scores with only a few highlights that hint at his great talent. I'm sure that this score will be at the very least 'quite good', but I haven't felt enthused about a Howard score upon listening to it since the tourist and the last airbender (which themselves are a fair bit off his best work), whereas he used to be a blind buy for me for a long time. Again, I hate to sound so down on a composer I often love, but I just get the feeling he's been hired to just write his recent Snow White again, which I found to be efficient but largely uninteresting, with frustrating snippets of excellence.
Of course I could be a little biased as I've been imagining a score for this from my favourite composer, Danny Elfman, for quite a while (Tim Burton was once attached to the project). I know that choice is a little on the nose, but I think Elfman could have done something spectacular. Of course JNH could as well, so I should probably be quiet and wait to hear the results!
