one of the few things I thought was neat about Tower Records here in Vegas was that they carried the FSM series of CDs.

but now they've quit stocking FSM titles altogether...both stores.

I wonder why, seeing as how Tower's regular CDs are all 19 bucks anyway, surely it's not a volume sort of thing?

I try to order FSM cds direct from the source but one time I was up in Dallas and couldn't resist grabbing a bunch of them.

Oh well that was one of the hilights of going to Tower in Dallas.

I noticed this as well in the Chicago Tower Records, where they used to have a special section for the FSM CDs and now they are nowhere to be found - bummer.

Tower Records in Schaumburg IL, carry quite a few of the FSM titles. I have also seen Loch Ness there too.

There may be a "specific" reason for this - contractual reasons for instance. But probbaly more to the point in the UK (so it may be the same for the US) the big record chains buy centrally - its usually down to one guy what goes in all the stores - and if you want to get your product into their stores you have to give huge discounts or send the goods on sale or return. No, record stores are not philanthropic organisations!

Well, Lukas, can you offer any insight as to this?

Tower Records is the reason I discovered Film Score Monthly several years ago when it was just a black & white piece. I'll always thank them for carrying it, otherwise I might not ever have found it.

For a while we tried distributing our titles to mainstream stores via Collector's Choice but it was too damaging to our business model (which is to say, selling these very specialized items directly to customers). So grab 'em while you can from those kinds of outlets.

Can anyone tell me when Tower shipped their stocks back? It would help me.
Thanks

Lukas

Wish I could be more specific Lukas, but I noticed them vanish (LA) just about three or four weeks ago.
Just as surprised as everyone here too. frown

Tower Stores I noticed were:
Glendale, Santa Monica, Sunset, and Sherman Oaks.
You see, I get around. wink

We can't afford to stay in business if we're cutting in too many middlemen and Tower is a big middleman!

I don't know why anyone would shop for (our kind of) soundtrack CDs in retail stores anyway...the selection usually isn't very good (much better than average at Tower, I grant you).

At the time I was hoping to catch the eye of people who might be interested in the titles but had no idea they existed. And it probably did happen...once or twice! But it's hard to be a pimp. Ahem.

But, just think of the great style in which it allows one to dress, Superfly.

Tower actually has one of the better soundtrack sections. In fact the Dallas location, as of last summer, still had a copy of the original Varese issue of the The Robe and Morricone's Once Upon A Time In America.

The Tower Records store here in Colombia used to be very good. I grabbed tons of rare titles, including dozens of Rykos that are actually still there, on sale. I also found Barry's Cry the beloved country for $5!!
But the film music section has become worse and worse, with tons of song albums and low quality compilations.
It was one of the best things in my life to find out about this mail order business.

I don't really recall exactly how i discovered FSM. It was definitely through the internet though.

I remember back in the good ol' days a few years ago when they actually HAD used CD shops in Vegas (and with quite a selection at that!) chatting with a middle-aged store clerk about how much he lamented that he couldn't find "Where Eagles Dare" on CD, as he did not have a home computer/ internet. And that was just when Chapter III turned into Chapter 11 and their CD instantly became hard to find, and in the next year or two ater FSM amazing disc!
I hope the poor guy found his music!
