I wonder when the next Varese Sarabande CD Club is?

They seem to drop roughly every two months these days, so I guess a new release is imminent

A week ago I asked them about it and they said that around September/November the next batch of THE DELUXE EDITION.

If that's a clue, they're getting worse.

Are there any second rate, drum machine driven, late Goldsmith left to expand?

Meh, I haven't picked up any of those. I hope we get more expanded animation scores.

I would take any of Goldsmith later scores over any scores out of the Remote Control composer clone farm in the last 15 years.

Nah they put those 3-4 scores out already. wink

It's mostly unique, creative stuff left like Timeline and Mom and Dad Save the World!

I dunno...I think maybe there's drum machine in Medicine Man? But I don't think many people would describe that as second-rate Goldsmith.

Another beloved unexpanded Goldsmith score is Rudy. No drum machine, and the unreleased music is lovely but admittedly quite similar to the already released music.

When's the last time Varese Sarabande put out an unreleased score from the seventies? wink

If they do this they should expand it. But since it's Lucasfilm I'd be kinda surprised if they got perpetuity rights, actually. Intrada's probably a better place to hope for this considering they just managed to put out Willow.

I love Medicine Man and Rudy, both really beautiful scores.
Mom and Dad Save the World is quite a romp.
I am probably one of the 14 people that actually saw that film in the theater, only because of Goldsmith.

Nope, I gladly passed on Air Force One, Executive Decision, Chain Reaction. They're to monotonous for me. They work fine in the films but get tiring as a stand alone listening experience. I respect Ado's opinion on them but I think Zimmer's output from the 90's and 2000's merit expansions as well. Crimson Tide, The Rock, Gladiator, King Arthur, not to even mention his animation scores. His best work has yet been expanded.

Thanks buddy, I actually did narrow my criticism of Zimmer and clones to the last 15 years. So that would give exclude most of what you like in the 90's and early 2000's. I do not own a single Zimmer score, not one, but if I bought one it would be from that time period for sure.

Breaking news: there are other composers besides Jerry Goldsmith.

Sorry, I should have asked you to sit down and have a drink to calm your nerves before I said that.

Cheers

(PS: written in humour.)
