I did the Google search thing and couldn't find a dedicated thread for this upcoming score, which surprised me. If there is one and I missed it, please post the link.
In any event, posting this now even if it's just for Mutant and me:
I’m torn on whether or not to preorder through Sacred Bones. The last time a week after release date, it still hasn’t shipped. I ended up cancelling and ordering though Amazon. I got it right away.
Man, I am so damn happy to be getting a new John Carpenter score this year. With all the madness in the world and older celebrities dropping off like flies, one thing still remains - John Fucking Carpenter!!!!!
I can’t wait to get my hands on the CD. The vinyl looks nice but just not my thing.

Either way I'm torn on whether to get this release or heed the concern of observant observer:
Cool, just hoping this time around they do the extended treatment from the get go and not another release 12-15 months later.

Ha! Yeah, that too.
But with Halloween Ends coming the following year, maybe they won't play those games this time (hopefully)
The score to the last movie was crazy successful - it made #12 on the Billboard album chart and #2 on the vinyl charts. Sacred Bones reported a few months later that it was one of the best selling scores of the entire decade.
So you best bet that they'll wait a while before releasing the complete version.
I agree whilst tempted to immediately get this, I will hold back awhile and await the deluxe, expanded 80+ minute version release - cos Michael says so!

Couldn't have said it better myself! The world has gone completely mental and yet here we are with a NEW John Carpenter score to make everything right for just a little while.

You can always get the cassette if that's more your speed!

Saying exactly what I'm feeling. That 2018 score is primo John at his best, hasn't lost even a single step in his scoring chops. The old man's killin' it. The Shape Hunts Allyson is easily an all time JC top 10 cue for me.
And that's great to hear about Halloween (2018) score sales. The extended is a new October perennial for me. Quintessential.

This cue epitomizes what I love about the 2018 score so much. It would have been easy to give the old reliable a new coat of paint and a fresh buff - God knows it would've worked brilliantly just as it did in 1978, and the 2018 spin on the 1978 main title literally had me cheering like a dork in my seat in the theater - but Carpenter gave the new score a new sound without losing sight of what made the original score so great. It's still propulsive, still evokes the unstoppable coming-for-you dread of The Shape in a compelling way, and still Carpenter's voice, but it's a look forward and not a look back which cleverly underlines the approach of the movie.
Yeah I'm pumped for all the MCU titles coming like a old time Marvel fanboy but the idea that it's 2021 and we're getting a new John Carpenter score in a theater and that I'll be able to hear it in a badass IMAX or Dolby theater is on another level. Considering JC as a composer only... how many people who were scoring films in the 70s do we even have left? Not a lot. John's one of the last connections to those golden years of the 1970s and 80s and I feel like that should not go unappreciated. Man's seen a lot of history and *made* much of it himself.
