A new #IndianaJones adventure begins July 29, 2022. Phoebe Waller-Bridge joins the cast alongside Harrison Ford in the fifth installment of the iconic franchise. The inimitable John Williams will also return to score the film.

I want to be excited about this but my kneejerk reaction is why can't they all just let this go and use their talents on other projects.

Exactly this. I can't imagine it going anywhere good. For my money, Harrison Ford has been putting out his best performances in ages these past several years. I'd hate to have his time and talent wasted on another pointless Indiana Jones debacle.

Yawn.

If he is still around when it is actually done.
Hell... if I am still around to actually see it.

It's Disney now. It will be about the daughter he never knew he had and she putting him in his place.
My dads a coward, he's afraid of snakes!

It amazes me what a lack of enthusiasm there is here for another Williams Indiana Jones score. This...is a film music forum, right?

Maybe it's because the Crystal Skull album kinda sucked (not as much as the movie tho', hehe)... the complete score was *really* excellent though so I'm super excited for this. And I have to imagine they noticed the backlash against the fourth movie and will do something different/better there, this time around.

Or setting his offspring up for a replacement / reboot / continuation franchise...

I know they're relying on Ford's star-power at this point, but I actually turned off Krystal Skull after that RIDICULOUS refrigerator scene, and I'm never one to turn off movies.

Surely, the music will raise this next one up, but I've not got high hopes for a solid story. Hopefully, just setting up the franchise for a new face.

I just got done praising Williams for creating some of the greatest film music ever over the last 60 years.
But honestly the last decade has been a dud, his writing has gotten tired and uninspired. (IMHO) So I'm not particularity excited for another JW's Indie score. Give it to John Powell or James Newton Howard.

His iconic leather jacket will be gone, replaced by a track suit. Coz it's wrong to kill animals for their skin.

Key word being "another." At this point wouldn't you rather see him do something new and not a fifth of something old?

Between this and nothing of course I'll take this. And the man certainly doesn't owe me or anyone else a damn thing. More power to him if this is what he wants to do with his time. But as a fan, and as a member of this...film music forum, who knows how many scores he may yet do and I'd much prefer to hear something altogether new. If indeed he scores Spielberg's autobiopic, I'll be way more excited for that. Sorry if that's frowned upon in a film music forum.

I realize the internet is a haven for unfounded cynicism. But really guys?

The Walt Disney Company is a gigantic corporation with many brands appealing to the gamut of demographics, and has been for a very long time. And yet here we treat it like they’re still defined mostly by The Little Mermaid.

Believe me, there is not a person involved in this movie who isn’t very well aware that Harrison Ford is forty years older now than he was forty years ago.

As for the idea that this is “just setting up the franchise for a new face,” I just don’t see it. This movie will cost somewhere in the $200 million range to make. That’s awfully expensive for a set-up. Further, what defines Indiana Jones is Harrison Ford. I think they learned with Solo that what people loved about Han Solo was not Han Solo but Harrison Ford as Han Solo.

Obviously, there is not one rule that applies across the board, and people once said that James Bond couldn’t survive once Sean Connery left. But Indiana Jones is also defined by a time period that they’ve long since left behind. I don’t know when this new movie is going to take place – maybe the ‘70s? (I’m guessing that they avoid this incongruity by having most of the film take place in jungles and ancient ruins, which feel more timeless.) So yes, they could pass the baton to a new Indy, but unless he also goes back in time (and of course, anything’s possible), they’d probably be better off just restarting in the 1930s, wouldn’t they?

I have no idea if this film will be good. But I hope it is.

The character of Indiana Jones was born on July 1 1899, so a story set near Harrison Ford's current real life age of 78 would take place in the late 1970s

They could go with early 70s though, since Ford has been on average 6 years older than the character when filming:

Raiders of the Lost Ark takes place in 1936 when Indy was 36 or 37, and filming began when Harrison Ford was 38 (he turned 39 during filming) {Indy was about 2 years younger than he was}

Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom takes place in 1935 when Indy was 35 or 36, and filming began when Harrison Ford was 41 (he turned 42 during filming) {Indy was about 6 years younger than he was}

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade takes place in 1938 when Indy was 38 or 39, and filming began when Harrison Ford was 46 (he turned 47 during filming) {Indy was about 8 years younger than he was}

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull takes place in 1957 when Indy was 57 or 58, and filming began when Harrison Ford was 65 (he turned 66 during filming) {Indy was about 8 years younger than he was}

I saw this and had a quick laugh.

But I am absolutely thrilled that Phoebe Waller-Bridge will be in this. I'd love to hear if she's involved with the script in any way. She's just so good, loved FLEA BAG and still cant' get enough of Killing Eve.

I agree. Isn't Ford a bit long in the tooth for this AGAIN. I can see him now with a walker and a separate back pack for his meds.
