WTF, I was just listening to his music!

Truly the greatest living film composer (when he was alive).

R.I.P., I need time to contemplate this terrible news.

His music will live forever!

I'm glad that I could build a large collection of his works and attend two of his live concerts. When I visited Rome some years ago I could even locate his palazzo next to the Foro Romano.

R.I.P. Ennio.

This is a sad day.

I discovered his music in 1968 and have been a fan ever since.

I was fortunate to have sen him live on stage conducting two concerts.

He will be missed, but his music will live for ever.

I'm now listening to The Mission, it seems appropriate.

My all time favourite composer. His music gave me joy, comfort, excitement - whatever I needed. He will be missed forever.

He was in the hospital for a broken femur, due to a fall he had at home, and at that age that is often a point of no return.
Even if not totally unexpected , it's still absolutely devastating news.
Clearly here in Italy it's major news, effectively the first time in a long while that the top news is not covid-related.
Here he was a cultural icon, known to the general public at large, and for a very long time, since the 60's and the Sergio Leone scores.
Not long ago he was guest on a TV talk show (from his home) and I observed that, while a bit frail (totally expected at 91!) his mind and demeanor were still as sharp as ever.
Very sad day

From the Italian newspaper Repubblica (roughly and hastily translated):
The maestro was awake and present until the very last moment, the last things he did were to say goodbye to his beloved wife Maria, who dedicated her life to him both as a man and an artist, and also thanked sons and grandsons for the love and care lavished on him. He also sent a heartfelt thought to his public, from whose affection he always got great strength and support for his artistic creativity.

I guess we can get some consolation from the fact that the Maestro departed with dignity, but I feel gutted anyway...He was a cultural staple WAY before I was born (and I'm not young)....I pretty much thought he was going to be with us forever.

Oh no, what a sad time.
After a two-week absence, I look again for news from the world of film music, and again have to take note of the death of two well-known composers.
Of course, Ennio Morricone is more famous worldwide than Johnny Mandel.
Even if both composers had already resigned from their professional activity; nevertheless both are a loss.
Even if it is comforting to be able to say that neither of them were not torn from the middle of life and that both of them have reached a very old age.

In addition, we can be glad that the most famous and most important filmmusic compositions by both composers were made available in excellent CD releases by the well-known film music CD labels.
And of course I hope that our esteemed film music CD labels will continue to do so.
This ensures that the wonderful compositions by Ennio Morricone are made available to the old fans in perfect form and are preserved for the later generations of fans.

Morricone is a film music composer who truly left one of the greatest musical legacies. And it will certainly take a very long time to process everything on perfect CD release.

LA-LA LAND RECORDS has just announced the 2-CD set of TWO MULES FOR SISTER SARA.
This is a CD release that I've been waiting for a long time. But I'm already sure that the result was worth the long wait.

A musical titan has gone from us …

Many thanks for all the fantastic music Maestro Morricone.
Rest in Peace.

P.S.
To commemorate him, I will now listen to his heartbreaking film music for the film ORCA on the wonderful CD from Music-Box-Records. This sad music fits incredibly perfectly with this sad moment ...

Oh god. I was dreading this day.

While Ennio kept going...it kinda felt reassuring.

The world is making me depressed enough...and now this?? frown

What a thing to wake up to.

Almost the Last of the Titans.

His music, his reach, his influence, spread far and wide. Its been a big thing in my life, all through my life. Most of all, im thankful for the joy his music has given me.

Thank you. To the man even other maestros called Maestro. You may have passed but your work lives on.

It sounds as if he was reconciled with his spiritual beliefs, which should be a consolation for us all regardless of whether we share them. If anything could make me accept the existence of a higher power, it’s Ennio Morricone’s music. I’m selfishly terribly sad but thankful for his life and for his career, which is unique and in all likelihood immortal. Grazie mille, Maestro.

Very sad news. He was 91, so had a long and productive life... such was his passion he continued writing film scores to the very end.

I'm sure they'll be talking about him for 100s of years to come as he's left such a huge legacy.

I listen to about 4 or 5 albums a day at the moment as I'm working from home and I've actually been listening to a lot of Morricone recently. R.I.P.
