Hello I have a question for La La Land, Intrada, or Quartet etc... It is any chance for release of "Dark Crystal" by Trevor Jones? It is so sad that this legendary score is completly OOP for so long. I dreamed about 2cd set with complete score and with wonderful CD program. Netflix series is big hit, movie was recently released on 4K disc.... But why Jones score is still not avaiable? So sad... If complete score is hard to do, personally I will be happy with original album rerelease

I had no idea that both releases of the score had gone out of print. The prices being asked for are criminal!

Apparently he has possession of the score tapes and won't give them back to Henson. Which is just a little beyond basic refusal to cooperate on a release.

Even if he weren't the legal owner of them, I don't want to find out if he's vindictive and does something to them after legal action.

Is he the legal owner of the tapes, or should they rightfully be the property of The Jim Henson Company? If the latter then could (if they desired) they legally get the tapes back again? A tad confused about this situation. He has the masters, he won't give them up, it's not worth a law suit to force him to give them up. That's the bottom line. Ford A. Thaxton

A frustrating situation! So any composer can just decide to keep their tapes and not hand them back then? Intrigued by what could have happened behind the scenes to warrant such behaviour.... I guess a person can legally possess physical master tapes without actually owning the rights -- the original Star Wars masters were in the possession of John Neal for years, and then put up for sale on Ebay in 2014. I'm just speculating here, but it's possible Jones may not trust record companies. He said in an interview once that Dominick & Eugene was released without his knowledge and "I certainly haven't got one". A friend of mine who met Jones in an autograph line once claims that Jones was a bit irked when someone handed him a Loch Ness CD to sign -- apparently this was released without his knowledge as well. Personally, despite the so-so sound, I am sufficiently satisfied with Numenorian's Dark Crystal CD. I'd much sooner have The Last Days of Pompeii and a real release of Excalibur.

Yeah, but this is what some labels are willing to do since Jones won't play ball. I'm sure they'd rather have worked with him, but he doesn't seem to want to do it. And he's Trevor jones, if he wants a freebie copy, I'm SURE any label would give him one if he asked for it. I know he has e-mail, he can do it. So far this appears to all be on him.

[startquote A friend of mine who met Jones in an autograph line once claims that Jones was a bit irked when someone handed him a Loch Ness CD to sign -- apparently this was released without his knowledge as well. The source was crap too -- someone transcoded it from a lossy source. Well, you should have mentioned the term WORK FOR HIRE to him He signed the deal and took the $$$. He doesn't own the masters or the publishing and those who do are free to do with them what they will. That's life in Hollywood. Ford A. Thaxton

This is why a studio should've written in the contract they get the tapes back at the completion of the project. They do as a rule.... But someotimes things just aren't returned after dubbing. Ford A. Thaxton
