In case anyone interested this soundtrack by Manfred Mann , it's available on disc #2 of Manfred Mann Radio Days Vol. 3 (BBC recordings of MM III) as a bonus item. However don't expect a sonic revelation.

Thanks for the heads up on this! Has it been available previously?

FYI This film, starring James Darren, was tracked mostly with music from "The Name of the Game is...Kill. There are, if I remember correctly, a couple of songs by Manfred Mann. He had nothing to do with any of the tracked music. which, by the way, was used without permission.

Since the score wasn't released until 2010, how did the producers of Venus In Furs manage to get hold of the recorded tracks for The Name of the Game is...Kill?

"Venus in Furs" was made about 50 years ago. "Name of the Game is Kill" was made in 1968-69. The music was used very soon after the release of Notgik.

Yes, but were the tapes for TNOTGIK stolen and used for Venus in Furs? Were they loaned by one producer to another? Whose permission needed to be sought, but wasn't? As near as I can tell, the film TNOTGIK was not copyrighted at the time of its release.

The problem has always been, since I discovered this about 15 years ago, that I can't find out how
Franco got the tapes. After the dubbing of the NOTGiK, the only people with a copy of the master tapes were me, the studio an the music editor, who had the 35 mil transfers.. The music was published and registered with BMI. The producer, Joe Solomon. did mot have any copies of the tapes. Permission to use the music would have to had come from me and Joe Solomon.

Do you still have a copy of the tapes, and if so, is there any hope of an official release?

Kritzerland released a CD titled "Three Scores" that contains most of the music from the film.

Thanks! Now I'll see if I can scam a copy off of Bruce!

I am confused. Perhaps you can sort me out.

The recently released "Manfred Mann Chapter III - Radio Days Vol 3 - Live Sessions & Studio Rarities" has a tremendous amount of music from VENUS AND FURS on it. The quality is pretty good given that it was sourced from the film.

The LP version that I purchased has a sticker on the shrink-wrap that reads "Artist Approved." Does this mean the artist (re: Manfredd Mann) is lying about the authorship of this music?

There is no hyphen between "artist" and "approved," thus suggesting that "artist-approved" is not an adjective to describe the album. Instead, it is a minimalist subject/verb sentence. Artist approved. We don't know which artist, or what (s)he approved. Brilliant marketing scheme!

I guess that settles it. Mystery solved.

I guess that settles it. Mystery solved.

Punctuation matters, as several lawsuits recently have revealed.

Are you suggesting that this release is the subject of a lawsuit?

Are you suggesting that this release is the subject of a lawsuit?

No, I'm talking about multi-million dollar lawsuits that were successfully argued based on ambiguity of meaning resulting from poor punctuation. Google "lawsuit" and "comma" and see what pops up.

Gotcha. Then I guess the mystery of the question of authorship of this music is not yet solved.

I am curious about all of this as I rather like this film. I also like its music.

The poorly punctuated "artist approved" sticker appears on my Manfred Mann CD, for whatever that is worth.

I love the film, too. Jess Franco on trombone!

There is no mystery to ten of the tracks listed as music from "Venus in Furs." As I wrote earlier on this topic, they were composed by Stu Phillips for the film "Name of the Game is...Kill".
