Can "masterful" be more loose, like: terrible movie, but a good score that's way better than the movie?

The Matrix trilogy. I've never witnessed such an impossible diametric of quality between film and score, and I doubt I ever will again.

Lost in Space - Bruce Broughton - In league with his other greats, but the movie is torture - even with Gary Oldman

While listening to one of my favorite scores from Amazing Elliot Goldenthal, "Batman Forever", I was trying to list all the masterful scores that were created for awful movies. And there are so many!! So here are few I can think of so far (of course the appreciation of how good or bad a movie is is purely subjective): Batman Forever Batman and Robin Sphere Under Fire The Burbs Star Wars Episode 1 Indiana Jones 4 Brothers Grimm The Ninth Gate Cloverfield Paradox Solaris (2002) Your turn! To be honest, I don't find many 'awful' movies on your list. Some are rather mediocre, true (INDY 4, CLOVERFIELD PARADOX), but the rest is pretty good, IMO. Films like SPHERE, UNDER FIRE and THE NINTH GATE, for example, are absolutely amazing films! As for my own suggestions, this is a topic we've done so many times over the years, that I don't have the energy to do another. To quote Bruce Marshall: "Use the search engine, dammit!".

Sorry for the fans but I watched THE BURBS for the first time a month ago. So I'm not tainted by nostalgia and I can safely say it has its place in my list. Maybe explaining why you disliked it would go a long way towards sympathy. Admittedly, I didn't like it at first, but subsequent viewings got me onboard. That said, you're just wrong putting any Star Wars film in that list. WRONG, I SAYS.
