I'm a huge fan of all of Stallones Rambo films and was stoked when he announced he was going ahead with a fifth intallment in the franchise. Alas it was a shame that Goldsmith had past before part 4 as I only wonder what he could have done with the film though in saying that thought Bryan Tyler did a fair enough job but only wish he had incorperated Golsmith's familiar ostinato into his score. I am under no illusion that he won't get the gig for part 5 but what other composers would you like to see score Rambo V? Personally Id like to see what Alan Silvestri could do with the film. I'd like to see Amin Bhatia get it (he did some fabulous Goldsmith inspired cues for some film work). Personally I think Teddy Shapiro would do a great job too. The problem I have with McNeely is that he might ape the original scores too much and it wouldn't be fresh. Silvestri would actually be pretty great too come to think of it.

Admittedly, I have only ever heard it in the film, but other than occasionally quoting the theme, I don’t recall Brian Tyler’s Rambo score sounding anything like what a Rambo score should sound like, stylistically. To me, it was a competent but fairly generic Tyler action score. We need somebody willing and able to bring back the authentic Rambo soundscape. Someone like, say, Chad Seiter, Joe Kraemer, Austin Wintory… But yes, I agree that Alan Silvestri would also be a fine choice. So would James Newton Howard, come to think of it.

This has long been one of John Scott's white whales, so it would be nice if Stallone would give him a call, for old time's sake. They went to high school together.

We're just lucky you can't tag composers on FSM like you can on Facebook, Jens. Haha

I agree about Conti. I'm tired of Tyler's big bland ear-assaults. Goldsmith he is not.

I like Tyler a lot. A number of his scores are wonderfully thematic and epic. But for some reason, his Rambo score was just kinda there. I'd be happy to see him do another if he gives it the same effort as he did with Thor The Dark World, The Mummy or Iron Man 3.

John Powell needs a chance.

I would have gone with Roque Banos after his terrific Evil Dead but now not so sure. I’d say Bear McCreary would do a fine job. He can write good action music that is melodic.
