Intrada's about as good as your going to get as the master tapes are long gone. As long as mono isn't too much of a turn off for the full score (the LP program does sound better here than any other release by far though).
The best way to search is "FSM" with keywords on google, although I found it with the search engine using "chinatown" in 2016 topics. You made the penultimate post in the announcement thread, asking if it was worth getting, and Jim Cleveland replied absolutely. I guess you didnt believe him. http://filmscoremonthly.com/board/posts.cfm?threadID=115225&forumID=1&archive=0
I remember that post with Jim Cleveland, but I couldn't find it via FSM search and couldn't remember which version of CHINATOWN I was asking about.
ESSANKAY:
It's also listed on SAE as being available for order on December 1, but it's not available for order. I emailed SAE and Intrada this morning, but it's Sunday, so maybe I'll hear from them on Monday.

"This title is still in a re-pressing status with Intrada so this date actually needs to be pushed back. This title has been in this status for nearly 4 months now and we have not been provided a good date of availability at this time."
I just placed an order for this last night so it seems the re-pressing has gone through. I'll post if anything changes, but it's good to finally be getting this. If it hadn't been for this, I was going to resort to recording the mono score track off the laserdisc!
I've listened to some bootlegs made off of that laserdisc. Believe me, the Intrada sounds much better (just a shame Jerry couldn't get a copy of the score in stereo =/)

I got it in the mail today and am listening to it now. It's fantastic! Go buy a copy now if you're a fan of this score.
I find it incredible that at least a stereo master of this score isn't in some studio vault somewhere, but I'm grateful to have this. The sound is excellent.
With the Intrada, you can easily insert the extra music into the stereo LP sequence and it sounds fine. This is what I did. The source music on the LP always felt very jarring to me, so I removed it.
Thanks for the info. I'll get the Intrada version.
For me the film tracks were a revelation in terms of sound quality. Although they're far from perfect and are in mono of course, they don't have whatever "sweetening" was done to the LP during mixing and mastering, and they sound far more natural to me.

Jarring is right. Out of curiousity how did you sequence the tracks?
