Also, in England, we can handle an alcohol ban..... But Scotland is another matter. Damn right. We're having a ban right now (.for a few weeks at least). Though for entirely different reasons.

A friend of mine, who lives in TN just outside Chattanooga and works for Nestle, went to work a week ago last Wed, feeling fine. That afternoon, came down with a fever of 102 f. Went to the doctor the next day, got a covid test and was confirmed positive on the following Fri. Over the weekend he felt so so, had evening fever spikes, but in the morning around 99 for so. Fatigue and cough set in but otherwise, not horrible. That is, until Tues. Tues a.m. he began to have issues breathing. Went to the ER, and was told he had pneumonia. While waiting to be admitted, he went into afib(atrial fibrillation). So he was unable to either be allowed into the heart floor because of Covid and he wasn't allowed into the Covid floor due to him being hooked up to a heart IV drip, so he was put into an ICU room. Currently he is only texting as he is finding it difficult to breathe, must less talk. And now one of my logistic coordinator here in Atlanta, working from home, is experiencing an unexplained fever, hit 101 f yesterday, hasn't really broke but is below 100 f. He is trying to get a covid test. Georgia as whole is now back in the red zone per the WH task force and while our numbers are not where the Midwest and upper Midwest are experiencing, they are on the rise. Went from averaging 1,500 cases per day to 2500 in the span of a few days. It's expected to get bad like we had in July. This incredible national surge could not come at a worse possible time in this country. 2 major holidays are fast approaching and untold numbers of people are ignoring and or not believing the stark reality of what is currently happening and will have get togethers as if nothing is going on. Yesterday's daily nationwide covid death toll was the highest since May, and that was when it was basically NYC who was in throes of this thing. But now, it's pretty much nationwide and with the 2 biggest holidays here...I can see why health officials, and doctors and nurses are in a near state of panic. It takes a few weeks for the death toll to climb after the initial positive cases, then the hospitalizations. I'm worried this is going to be extraordinarily bad until probably late January, early Feb.

The last update I was able to get was that the afib was corrected and that he was feeling better and that was as of last night. Keeping fingers crossed and prayers going.

Just went grocery shopping. Again a lady was standing so close to me in the check out line I could feel her breath on my neck! I had to remind her to please step back six feet. I'm lucky if she stepped back two or three feet at best. (just like the last time I asked a lady to step back) Oh, and the only thing she was purchasing was pineapple juice and alcohol. Have a big bean burrito before going shopping. Yeah, it's irritating how stupid is as stupid does, isn't it?

Supposedly we can't have friends over to our home for dinner, but I don't think that can be enforced. Who would know? True, Joan, but better they ban it than not. Then the number of opportunities for spread go down somewhat. ("Somewhat" being the word to be used often, when thinking about getting Americans to cooperate for a higher good.)

Grocery stores are open but must limit customers to 25%. I will have to check out more rules. This one is way-totally in place at one of our small local markets, and has been since March. The big chains have not been half-trying to limit entrances. When I go into one of THEM, it's "White-Knuckle City" for me, I try to get in and out so fast!

I just do my part and have given up on other people doing the sensible precautions. You, Henry, have managed to reach a low-stress attitude in a reasonable amount of time. I'm still grousing under my breath, albeit less than before.

The situation is so desperate in Minnesota that the governor is begging people that don't like him to listen to the health experts so they can stay alive to vote him out of office. It's a sad state things are in, when a sick logic like this has to be deployed to get people to do the right thing....
