Great minds...I picked that one up a couple weeks ago, haha. Been slacking on posts here, sorry buddy! Will get back on it pretty soon here!

Deionarra's pretty good. A varied journey, mostly chill, some great melodies. You'll enjoy it.

Thank you, Chris! And thanks for listening! If you enjoy Midnight Odyssey specifically, or better yet, space ambient music in general, and would like some further recommendations, let us know. Space ambient is one of my favorite "genres" and I would relish the opportunity.

Thanks Losher
I ordered the Midnight Odyssey. Most aren’t my cup of tea, everyone tastes are different but I appreciate you posting them. I’m always up for trying something new.

Much of the album is more Berlin school than DS but Arc's FLEET is great stuff, certainly Mark Shreeve's best since BLAZE IMO. I've sort of coined it Shreeve's "ASSASSIN II" noting similarities in melody and composition. May want to check it out.

[Now Playing - SPACE AMBIENT Edition]

Here you are Chris (and everyone)! Below are some of the more captivating space ambient releases of the last few years. Please note that as with other albums in this thread, the below all have CD releases.

If you're looking for those most similar to Midnight Odyssey, I'd recommend Martin Sturtzer or Den Sorte Dod. The latter is probably the one of the below that's closest to dungeon synth, if you're seeking that angle. I refer to Den Sorte Dod equally in both DS and space ambient, depending on the day. If you have a chance to give any of these a listen, let us know! And/or ask questions!

DEN SORTE DOD - Depressive Magi

DREAMSTATE LOGIC - Distant Points of Light

DREONE - Prelude

DRUADAN FOREST - Portals

GDANIAN - Induction

HILYARD - Furthermore

LONEWARD - Our Unyielding Sky

Oh wow, never heard this before!! Thank you so much for posting! Very strange to hear ambient music like this with audience applause after the tracks. Definitely a first for me. And I'm loving the music! Space ambient / Berlin school electronics with just a very little DS thrown in there, most notably on the first track/tune. Planning on picking up a copy, this is right up my alley!

Yeah, I had to edit out all of the audience on my mp3 conversions. It's a much better album without them. Make sure you go down the Mark Shreeve rabbit hole if you haven't already!

MAIDEN HAIR (OV ENGLAND) - Minstrel

Interesting. To the best of my limited knowledge, Maiden Hair has always being a dungeon synth / ambient / neofolk / electronic entity. This new album still has small pockets of influence from those genres, but also heavily incorporates kosmiche and modern space ambient. Both the CD liner notes and the Bandcamp description clearly imply this also (as does the cover art to some degree). Then there’s the relatively new label on which the CD was released, Forbidden Keep, who mainly operate in black metal (this and a recent release from Serpent’s Isle notwithstanding). Thus, this album’s sound was very unexpected. Yet a nice surprise. So far-ranging and enigmatic are the melodies that I’m not sure the audience for whom this is best recommended. Check it out and let your mind wander.

Thanks for the capsule review for this one, C. I received it last week and enjoy it VERY much. Quite diverse in its influences and soundscapes, as you mentioned, while still managing to provide a cohesive listening experience. I can't recommend it highly enough.

Snagged my first Jim Kirkwood album recently, and for an incredibly low price considering how old this CD is and the fact that it's never been reissued in any format (at least according to discogs):

https://www.discogs.com/release/357081-Jim-Kirkwood-Tower-Of-Darkness

A few tracks into my first spin now and wow, this is fantastic! So fun, and very much in the Berlin school, with hints of Three O'Clock High and Near Dark-era Tangerine Dream. Most highly recommended.

So strange that you’re posting this now, and stranger still this is your first Kirkwood album. Just a few weeks ago I asked the DS Reddit community for Jim Kirkwood first-time recommendations, as I don’t own any of his material, but have heard some of his stuff on YouTube’s Dungeon Synth Archives and loved the old school video-gamish / Berlin school sound. Get out of my head, dude!! smile

Jeez, Tower of Darkness did go for cheap. The few CDrs I saw of his on Discogs weeks ago were pretty pricey, just enough that I didn’t leap. Yet, haha. ToD does sound pretty awesome! Thanks for the recommendation!

In case you (or anyone else) are still looking for this, there's a used copy for sale on discogs for super cheap ($13 including postage to the USA): https://www.discogs.com/sell/release/357081?ev=rb

Whoa, Wizard-Discs new releases alert! Four releases, limited to 10 copies each and already half gone:

https://wizardiscs.bandcamp.com/

(I already have "Northern Stories of Frost," but the other three appear to be new to CD.)

Thanks Josh! I saw the notice, just a little late. But think I might refrain from grabbing any this time around. Still waiting on the Coniferous Myst / Dragon Spell split CD, and currently buried in VG soundtracks and space ambient albums too. I hope you were able to get them all!!

I was, thanks, and I totally understand about holding off. I have several dozen metal CDs I haven't listened to yet. So much great stuff coming out, I can't keep up! I need to start being more selective, but man, it's hard.

It's so funny...I was just going to add this to my Bandcamp wishlist and, um, It's already there.

There's too much cool music for me to keep up with these days. And you all keep posting more and more!

Jeesh. A good problem to have, I guess.

And yes, ARC rules. RIP Mark Shreeve.
