I'm four episodes into S2 of Deadwood, & so far it's not as good as season one. Not enough action & too much talk & suffering (poor old Al Swearengen having that big metal prod pushed up his willy...twice!). Anyway, I'm sure it'll get better.

Which do ya mean, the show, or Al's willy, eh?

Judging by the thickness of the metal thing they pushed up his willy, I don't think it'll ever be the same again.

I'm having a mid-season break, I need to watch some old b/w films.

Riviera was already getting tired, repetitive and daft by series 2. And now they have a series 3.
Its same old stale nonsense - in the first series an art specialist marries a multi millionaire who is (apparently) killed. By series 3 she is disposing of bodies at the car crushing plant with the aplomb of oddjob. !! frown

Another series go bye bye

Anybody tried this Undoing yet?
Im not sure what its about?

Yes Bill, I've watched the first 2 episodes, and I really like it. Nicole Kidman is always great. Nice to see Hugh Grant again. He has aged but is still good. Acting is fine. It is a murder mystery and is based on a novel I read that was very good. Note how well Kidman, as a psychiatrist, can read her patients. Can she read her own life? Can't say anymore about this. No spoilers. You should watch it. Loved how the first episode used a lot of the music from my favorite part of Vivaldi's Four Seasons Winter.

Watched with my fast forward button at times The Third Day with Jude Law. As my British Buddy Bill would say, it is "utter tosh." Avoid it.

Joan, I'm hooked on The Undoing! Great acting and directing and it while its not by David Fincher, it has the Fincher look about it, which I love.

Definitely with it for the long haul.

On season 4 of Peaky. It's very good. A funeral scene in a field was also filmed in our town back home, as it has a colliery in the background they didn't have to cgi in.

Also on Misfits season 4, Joe Gilgun is in it, which is good.

And old bake off episodes for comfort food for the eyes.

Still watching HBO's THE UNDOING. Very good series. I would bet money that Donald Sutherland will win an Emmy and a Golden Globe for best supporting actor. He is 85 and still is a superb actor.

The Queen's Gambit - one episode in and it's a great start.

Billions - 3 episodes in and I'm hooked.

Brave New World - watchable enough with likeable performances. It works best when it's being humorous. I'd watch a season two if it was made (I believe it I should being shopped around).

Yes Billions is as good as ever, xeb however i dont like the soap-like way they are changing wendy. It smacks of alter persona and character to create different plot.

Like I wrote in the BABYLON BERLIN thread:

“You want proof of an unjust world? The fact that a series like BB with its tremendous music has gone largely ignored by FSMers is that proof.”

I’d like to thank all the “little people” who did their duty and introduced me to this show.

I only watch one episode a week, because this is a show one must savor and let the imagery, fine acting, art direction—and music—sink in throughout the week.

Agreed. It's his best role in years and he is aces in this.

Agreed on all counts here and I have 2 more episodes remaining for season 3, dang it. Don't want it to end.

I did read though that we can possibly expect season 4 sometime in the spring.

Finished all five seasons of Misfits. Very funny stuff. Robert Sheehan shined then was replaced by the excellent Joe Gilgun.

Currently motoring through Billions, which is great.

War of the Worlds is just about watchable but very dour and frequently lifeless, with lots of people doing things they really shouldn't. Also, they frequently do the cheat that if the camera can't see it then suddenly something doesn't exist or isn't visible or can't be heard. And it's mostly about robot dogs.

"Finished all five seasons of Misfits"
------------------
I enjoyed each series of THE MISFITS, Ob, but found each subsequent series slightly 'less good' than the previous one.
Losing key/favourite characters was a major reason for this (the Irish waste-oid of Series 1 & 2 was really funny and the quiet geek was another fave)*.
But it was very good (and funny) overall, if you're not easily offended.

*I think the northern chav girl with the big nose, from the first two series, got sacked from the show after getting done for some racist attack or abuse in real life (the one who "sh@gged a fkn gorilla"!!!) wink

Just finished season 2 of Deadwood. Brilliant of course, but a lot of it was a bit of a downer, so much suffering, & not many (if any) laughs. I'll see season 3 next year (& then the feature). I don't know what next, probably seasons 3 & 4 of The Bridge. I've only seen seasons 1 & 2, which I have in a Blu-ray set, I've been recording 3 & 4 off TV (BBC4).

I'm thinking about Babylon Berlin, it'll have to be the DVD, as the region B Blu-ray doesn't have English subs, that's a drag, as I'm a real Blu-ray snob, but I'm sure the DVD looks great.

The deuce starts a s1 rerun tonight on sky atlantic at 10.10pm, thoroughly recommend this. 70s set drama about a bar and characters involved in both the sex industry n porn business. James Franco stars.
