I just saw the first four episodes of Mad Men & really enjoyed it, so I'll be watching it for the next few weeks.

Watched first episode of Gangs of London. (Sky atlantic). Reshown sunday night.
It wasnt bad. Good, in fact. In places, a little over dramatic but the gangsters are quite mean n believable, not cartoon ones like Lock stock type. Joe cole from peaky blinders plays a hotheaded criminal son who wants revenge for the killing of his crimelord father (so its a bit reminiscent of godfather, brando death and Sonny/caan's temper).
A black actor called Sope Dirisu plays the best part, and theres a brutal but well staged pub fight where he takes on about 8 Albanians with just a playing dart!! ??
There's also a fabulously tense edge-of-seat fight with a gypsy butcher armed with a cleaver.
Only 1 episode and such things are often shit, but so far ive been impressed.

The show is imo best when watching an episode every few days, as there's lots of food for thought and great dialogue. It's the only series I know of where I found myself quoting lines from it--and that was only after a single viewing.

"The Hobo Code" from S1 is among my favorite episodes from the entire run of the show.

Me neither.
The bit where you say he takes out 8 Albanias with a dart had me thinking of the comedy/ridiculous scene in Kingsmen Secret Service.
You're such a guvnor Bill wink

I only meant to watch two episodes, but I found it so moreish that I watched a third & then a forth, well they're only 45 long. I love the rich look of the show, & the outdated attitudes are fun, & who wouldn't want to be a successful ad man in fifties New York. I watched it with a large glass of bourbon on the rocks. smile

You are wrong boys. It wasnt silly jason statham kung fu shit, there is already a fight in a pub and he works his way thru various combatants who are already fighting each other. Have you ever been stabbed with a fkn playing dart?
It isnt silly fkn kingsmen shit. All fights on film are staged but it was quite brutal stuff. Watch it and you will see.

Sky Atlantic isn't available to Virgin subscribers through any format.
Those greedy bastards love tryin to shaft each other at our expense.

Last night I binge watched the entire Season 1 of THE TWO COREYS.

Such a tragic tale is that of Corey Haim. I think he had a beautiful and sensitive heart underneath all the shit that messed up is life.

Rest in Peace Corey Haim.

Feeling a bit too sad to watch Season 2.

Finished Devs, which was just about worth it. Lovely looking to the end but hollow, stuffed with pretentious writing, and poor fudging. Why use two lines when a Five minute monologue capped by the two lines will do. Tonally consistent, but ponderous.

Kingdom S2 (2020)

More epic medieval Korean zombie action. Wipes the floor with The Walking Dead.

Agreed, I'm really into this show. Was surprised at a couple of things in midseason, which again shows how S Korean shows and movies eschew the standard Hollywood conventions, at least for the most part.

I saw a few more episodes of Man Men, great stuff! My god, the drinking that goes on, generous amounts of scotch are poured into large tumblers at all times of the day, & even a healthy glass of orange juice has some vodka added. I bought the big 1-7 box set, so lots of episodes to look forward to.

...& I'm enjoying the very last season of Modern Family (it's a good one). I've been recording them, but I'm up to date now, I think it's about eight programs to go.

Episide 2 of Gangs of London, sean continues to be a hothead, the mother is like Talia Shire encouraging violence, and we now have a "Fredo" in the family in the shape of weak brother Billy.
Its still good though.
Very enjoyable massacre at a gypsy camp in this.
That'll teach 'em for dumping conifers! wink

Dracula Netflix/BBC

Episode 1 so far.

It's awful. One of the worst iterations of Dracula ever. He's a crappy looking old Christopher Lambert type, then a very bland Del Boy without the larfs.

The humour is awful and an entire failure. The godless sister agatha is really tiresome. How do you know she's godless? She talks about it constantly. Though I quite like her as the investigator type.

The other casting is bland. The horror atmosphere is unsuccessful, reliant entirely on unearned jump scares.

The writers In the past have done some good stuff and some really bad, and everything in between. There are a couple of interesting ideas buried under about 75% worthless shit.

Some nice design and the music is ok but didn't make much impact.

The twist with Mina was deeply obvious. There were a lot of black and Asian nuns in Hungarian 19th century monasteries.

Xeb i thought sister agatha was the best thing about the show. Less said about the usual BBC box-ticking history rewrite.
