Ahhhhhh, Narragensett, the beer of JAWS I remember always wondering what it tasted like, the many many times I watched the film. THEN!!!! About 3 years ago, a few pubs in olde Liverpool towne started stocking cans of it in their fridges. Oh how we binged on the stuff. Much nicer than ANY Carlsberg I've tasted, which is bottom of the rung beer to me. I'd much rather a Tuborg or Kronenberg over Carlsberg. 'Gansett is much better on draught as are all beers I reckon. They had a 1975 limited edition can release recently, and the can looked like the one Quint crushed. I love me some of Ye Olde Carlsberg, I cannot tell a lie. You want bottom of the rung beer, try that shitty Tennent's, which is among the worst beers I've ever tried; no wonder the pensioners from Still Game are so god damned grouchy all the time, drinking that shite. I don't have access to those other beers you mentioned, but I am on the lookout for them when I go over to your side of the pond, provided we're not all dead by then.

We went for a wine last night, knowing that the lockdown is imminent, and we were the only ones in. It's usually crowded with people, as one of the best-known octopus restaurants in town. The owner was cheerfully announcing that it's the end of his business, so he might as well top up our glasses for free until 2 in the morning. We must have had about two bottles each, the wife n' me. I thought that my sore head this morning was the result of the coronavirus, but then I remembered. I don't drink at all, really, alcohol makes me sick. But I certainly noticed your mention of octopus, which is just about my favorite dish. I hope that the owner was closing down on his own and not due to the current hysteria?

No hysteria, jackfu, just facts. No customers, staff to pay, and an indefinite lockdown of all bars and restaurants looming... He was just being quietly philosophical.

That is so sad, Graham, I'm glad you were able to enjoy the evening and I wish that owner well and hope he'll be alright. jackfu in the "Cheers!" thread?!? The world is coming to an end! It sure doesn't feel like Friday. Thor's post has me taking inventory on my own drunken apocalypse kit, and it appears that I have enough wine, beer, and rum for at least a couple of weekends. Hurry up and end, world; I don't want to run out of booze. I hear ya, Jim! It didn't feel like Friday for me either, until I saw DIB's latest posts on the "Now Playing - Christmas Edition" Thread and it cheered me up, big time! I'm listening to Christmas music all day today! I'm not gonna let the viruses win!

Hurry up and end, world; I don't want to run out of booze. He, he. In terms of booze, we're rather vulnerable in Norway, because you can't buy alcohol higher than 4.7% in grocery stores (and only before 20:00 on weekdays and 18:00 on Saturdays, none at all on Sundays). You'll have to go the socalled 'wine monopoly' for licor, wine and stronger beers. So if they close too, we're screwed! Because of the virus, the college where I work is "transitioning" to online classes until the end of the month, so I'll be at home. I'll also have to stock up on my favorite beverages, thus making the best of an otherwise depressing situation. Still, I'll get to catch up on some reading, music listening, and film and TV watching--I'd like to once again watch all of the Bergman films in which Max von Sydow (R.I.P.) appears.
