It might have done better had it come out before the latest FURIOUS flick?

I'd say you haven't watched enough movies with Hardy in them if it took til Fury Road for him to redeem himself for you.

He was forgettable in Inception (ok movie), equally annoying as Shinzon in Dark Knight Rises (shit movie) and glancing over the rest of his imdb list I'd say "The Drop" I still need to watch that as it had a Belgian director and Noomi Rapace plus reviews were ok. Also "Locke" seem ok. Mad Max is the first (lead) part of his I've seen so far where I liked him.

He was the only actor with any kind of personality in Inception. He was imposing as Bane in TDKR, turned ina solid performance in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

He was ineffective as Shinzon, but it was a role he was miscast in. Actually, it wasnt a very good role to begin with.

Can't the Trekkies forgive him? It's been 13 years!

And he was a force of nature in Bronson. And he spent a whole movie in a car alone in Locke and still managed to keep things entertaining.

All great points on Hardy's abilities and his strengths as an actor working today (and that is one hell of a CV with just those mentions). Alongside the wonderful Oscar Isaac, he is my favorite actor who has seemingly come out of nowhere to conquer these roles in such a short frame of time.

I'm prodding LeHah because I know he really dislikes Star Trek Nemesis. To his credit, he's a difficult cat to really make an impression upon.

OK, will be keeping an eye out for those.

OK, early concept art has been released for the already planned sequel.

This can't be real! I'm not ready to trade car combat for dragons and dinosaurs.

It's not. Here's a comment by the artist at her Deviant Art page:

Because I can't draw vehicles. big grin

You guys probably don't know this, but years ago when Miller first thought of a new MAD MAX film it was going to star Don Knotts and was going to be called MAD MAX: FURLEY ROAD.wink

I honestly think this film deserves Oscars across the board, it's that good. But I know it probably won't, the Academy doesn't usually go for this kind of film, which is unfortunate.frown

Recently (finally) watched Fury Road on BluRay.

Very, very good. Not quite as good as The Road Warrior, but still superb. I love the intelligence and the depth with which Miller develops brutal apocalyptic culture - makes it totally believable.

Ugh. My 2D/3D blu-ray steelbook is being held at the post office for over a week now, I refused to pay customs on it as the order amount was still tax free. Before this is sorted out between the customs and the postal company, I have no idea how long this will take and when I'll finally get to see the 3D version.

Next time the customer service calls me, I'm answering "Mediocre". big grin

Watched the Blu Ray Tuesday night and the damn thing wore me out smile Some of the most incredible action I've seen in some time as far as the car stunts are concerned, the counter-weighted pole dudes and the guys on the flying motorcycles were great. Donna stared watching it with me but after 45 minutes said she either felt like she'd been smoking weed or seriously needed some, and she promptly went to bed .

You can see why the film is constructed as is, dropping you into this wild world, like Max, throwing you off balance and not knowing what the hell is happening for a while. That fairly low key second act does give a much needed breather, and finally sheds a bit of light on characters and motivations, just enough to give the last half hour some weight.

Although the movie was feeling like too much of a good thing, in the end it was really enjoyable. I can easily see getting some Oscar nods in the technical categories, but umm, no, no Best Picture is in the future here. So much of the movie was far out slap ass batshit crazy it was kind of hard to NOT love it. The traveling rock band scoring the chase was hilarious. And the actual film score was fine, did what it needed to do. Not awful but not great.

When I can find this at a good price on Amazon or used locally, no doubt it's gonna be joining my collection. It was a heck of a lot of goofy fun.

I really enjoyed Fury Road. I'm not a big fan of the other Mad Max films or car films in general. But i loved all the practical stunts in this and for the most part found the CGI good too. I also really liked Nicholas Hoult, too. Interesting little character he had. The world Miller created was interesting and without going to much into the minutiae, it did feel like their was a real world outside the car chase. The acting was good and the film held my interest all the way through, and i came out and felt like i could watch another. He can certainly direct action - so i'd be interested if he got a Justice League off the ground, where previously i couldn't have cared less. I also enjoyed the music in spots too.
