Numerous fans have been hoping for a release of this classic and it's finally arriving in October from Warner Archive. In 1947, upon being re-released theatrically, The Sea Wolf was cut to 86 minutes which has been the only version available. For the first time in 70 years, it has been restored to its original 100-minute running time, a 4k scan taken from 35mm nitrate elements. This is a title that can thankfully be amended on our "Most Wanted on DVD or Blu-Ray" Pinterest Board and is set for release October 10, 2017.

The 1978 West German documentary FILMING OTHELLO is included in the Criterion Blu-ray/DVD of OTHELLO that has just been released (10 October) and is available at the Criterion website.

https://www.criterion.com/films/28621-othello?q=autocomplete

A review of the disc on the DVD Talk website has this to say about the documentary:

"The rest of the extras are, as was mentioned earlier, included on the second disc. The biggest and best of this is the inclusion of Welles' own 1979 feature length documentary Filming Othello, a picture that would wind up being his last completed film. This documentary is interesting for quite a few reasons, not the least of which is that Welles re-edited some of the clips used in the picture and dubbed much of the voice work himself. Made for German television, the eighty-three minute long piece, narrated by Welles, allows Welles to discuss the trials and tribulations of getting the picture made, talk about its reception and share stories about the genesis of the project in his own words. Meant by Welles to be a ‘conversation' rather than ‘anything so formal as a lecture,' its inclusion on this set is important and appreciated. The piece also includes input from cast members Micheál MacLiammóir and Hilton Edwards and also features vintage footage of a Q&A session that Welles did in 1977 for a screening that took place in Massachusetts. Welles shot this on 16mm, the presentation on this Blu-ray is in full 1080p HD and it looks quite good. This marks the first time that it has been made available on home video."

How about "Enter Laughing"? It was Carl Reiner's semi autobiographical look at when he tried to break in show business. It was released on V.H.S., but alas, no D.V.D., M.O.D. D.V.D.-R. or Blu ray release.

You're right. I can find no availability of this title on any video format other than VHS tape. It has been posted to the Pinterest Board. Thanks for bringing this worthy title to our attention!

Here is the board as it now stands:

Another great update! Thanks once again, Bob. It will be noted on the board.

On another note I was wondering if you could have a look at the film 'Little Treasure' with Margot Kidder, Ted Danson and Burt Lancaster and could provide us with any information including its availability.

LITTLE TREASURE (1985) was released on cassette as early as 1986 in Europe and on laserdisc in the U.S. It took until 2000 to see a U.S. VHS release, in the waning days of that format. I don't think there is any particular reason why it hasn't shown up on DVD other than its obscurity. It barely got a theatrical release. Shot on location in Mexico in early 1984, the film received a one-theater booking in Manhattan in May 1985, with little wider exposure.

Don't want to start a new thread to ask this question, so here it goes. Are newer re-releases better quality than releases from ten years ago? For example I have some titles I picked up probably a decade ago, 2001, Terminator 2, Road Warrior 2, Broken Arrow (90's) Mummy (90's), that are constantly re-released with new packaging. Do newer releases have better transfers? Not talking about 4K stuff.

Obviously, the answer depends upon the title. Some re-issues are remastered/re-transferred, others aren't. Most labels won't miss a chance to tell you on the packaging if they have remastered or re-transferred a title. If the packaging doesn't say anything, assume an older transfer. And, despite the fact that, in general, transferring/mastering processes have improved over the last 10 years, not every remastering results in a difference that you may be willing to pay for. Best bet is to read reviews, preferably from someone who tends to see what you see in picture quality.

Is there a SHOUT! Blu-ray release thread? In the USA, the dvd release of COLOSSUS: FORBIN PROJECT was a terribly cropped fullscreen. Only the laserdisc was widescreen. SHOUT will be releasing a widescreen blu-ray in February 2018. It's been released in widescreen dvd and blu-ray everywhere else with bonus features.

I just noticed "My Favorite Year" isn't on Blu Ray yet. Even the digital copy on iTunes is standard definition only.

In the 1948 film noir I LOVE TROUBLE, Franchot Tone stars as flippant private eye "Stuart Bailey" who is hired by an ambitious politician (Tom Powers) to investigate his wife (Janis Carter) after he receives a mysterious note questioning her background. Roy Huggins wrote the screenplay for this film, based upon his own 1943 novel The Double Take. The film has not had a video release on any format.

The source novel and the character of Stuart Bailey were used again 10 years later for the television detective series "77 Sunset Strip," which was produced by Huggins. Efrem Zimbalist, Jr. played the character in that series.

Set in the rural Appalachian mountains, WHERE THE LILIES BLOOM follows fourteen-year-old "Mary Call Luther" (Julie Gholson) as she cares for her siblings in the wake of her mother’s death and the illness of her father, "Roy Luther" (Rance Howard). William A. Graham directed the 1974 film. Earl Hamner, Jr. ("The Waltons") scripted the film from Vera & Bill Cleaver's 1970 novel.

Bluegrass banjoist Earl Scruggs wrote and performed the film's score, with his band The Earl Scruggs Revue. Columbia Records released an LP of the score, which has not been re-issued on CD. After receiving generally positive reviews, the film fared well at theaters. Howard Thompson of The New York Times called the picture "an endearingly simple, honest and moving film...this beautiful little movie is like a cool, clear dip of mountain spring water."

WHERE THE LILIES BLOOM had a VHS release in 1993, but has not been issued on DVD.

Still don't have James Cameron's The Abyss on Blu-ray. In 2016 it was slated to be out sometime this year.

In August Cameron reported it's still on the way: "I’m working on that. The True Lies Blu-ray and The Abyss Blu-ray have sort of fallen off my to-do list, (with) getting not one, not two, but four Avatar sequels stood up and going. But now that that has happened, I can actually take care of business. So yes, that is coming."

http://www.denofgeek.com/us/267155/true-lies-the-abyss-james-cameron-reaffirms-blu-ray-plans

The article points out the obvious question here: since filming on the Avatar sequels is just now beginning, when on Earth is Cameron going to have time to work on the Blu-ray for The Abyss if he hasn't had the time to date? I seriously hope we don't have to wait for four Avatar sequels to roll out before this release will see the light of day.
