Troi just had a "relationship" with some leader of a planet despite them having no chemistry and little screen time. It felt very forced.

Matt Frewer was just in a recent episode. He was fun to watch. A young (and beautiful) Ashley Judd was in two eps. She had a lot of charm. Both of these actors had more charisma than almost all of the main cast have been allowed to have in 5 seasons. Robin Williams was originally supposed to be in Frewer's role. That would have been interesting to see. As to the flat cast, I blame the painful dearth of character development coupled with some roles being genuinely miscast. Thankfully, neither was repeated on DS9. Hell, that show's recurring characters were better cast and developed than most leads on TNG. Wasn't this Roddenberry's fault? He insisted on very "average" looking actors and characters who "learned how to get a long" because mankind had intellectually evolved passed primeval/petty discord. Nice philosophical musings but hardly make for good drama. Yes I think you're right. He wanted everyone to be friends and never argue, I believe. The crew have just encountered a genderless species but I'm sure Riker will still ènd up in bed with someone.

Bev Crusher defending attacking the Borg and wiping them out - just kill her already. She's the most self-righteous one note character on this show. Except maybe Guinan, but even she shows more sense. Episode I, Borg is embarrassing. The Enterprise crew could talk themselves out of finding Hitler guilty of anything. They're directly responsible for dvery single murder/assimilation the Borg commit from this point on. The crew are really hard to like when written like this. "The Borg don't assimilate individuals just civilizations". Utterly moronic writing. What the eff are civilizations made up of? The Borg should be able to be defeated after about twenty minutes by individuals planting bombs and other stuff.

Picard is supposed to be a Frenchman, yet despite his moronic family running a vineyard, he slurps Early Grey tea ("Hot."), speaks with a blatantly English accent, and is, other than a few script-dictated mandates, emotionally constipated in the most English manner possible. Ah, but you are forgetting one very important fact that demonstrates Picard as a Frenchman. I'll quote SFDebris since he put it best. "Well, I hate to stereotype so I'll just present you with the facts. At exactly 18 minutes and 45 seconds into the Pilot, the French Captain says "we surrender." Make of that what you will." Yep! And on the maiden voyage of the Federation Flagship no less! Hahaaaaaha! Ahhhhhhahahhhha! That is fresh! Reminds me of a joke: What are the first two words a French baby learns to say? "Je surrender" Lol. I love cracking myself up! Fyi Picard speaks with a Scottish accent.

Fyi Picard speaks with a Scottish accent. In what alternate universe? This is like when Canadians tell me my Lancashire accent sounds Scottish.

Something Roddenberry wanted to interject into TNG was a person with a disability, thus we got Jordi. But early on he went further with this by showing people with disabilities also suffer pain and discomfort from their disability. This is something usually overlooked when portraying a person with a disability on screen. Though that was quickly forgotten and the writing quickly resorted back to dealing with the obvious surface issues of disabilities. Worf broke his back for half an episode. Quickly sorted that. Bev Crusher was awfully pious in that one too against the person who cured him. Didn't like the other doctor's methods.

I can't believe after all this time I missed the obvious French guy surrenders joke in the pilot. The fans have the running joke that whenever Troi get the wheel of the ship, disaster ensues, but this is worse (I can put forth a good case Troi shouldn't take the blame).
