Suggs is da man! At least that's what I thought when I was 11 years old. Madness must have been iconic among Brit kids my age back then. Suggs and his grown-out flat-top haircut were "cool" among my idiot rabble. I seriously need to re-listen to more Madness! It might even sweeten my disposition or at least make me as "woke" as the typical mainstream FSMer.

Watched the "Cardiac Arrest" video--not familiar at all. Thematically, the song is a combination of Paul's vocal break in "A Day in the Life" and the concept of "Good Morning Good Morning."

BTW, not one Brit bastard ever wore the suit, brolly, and bowler hat ensemble Suggs and the boys wear in the video! In fact, that defining gentleman's suit was nowhere to be seen when I visited London ten years ago! I'll bet no Brit man has worn that outfit since Roger Moore in The Man Who Haunted Himself!

Rage along with me:

Just found it: "Cardiac Arrest" was the B side of the "Our House" US single (45 rpm), which I had.

I can't decide which version of "Girls Talk" I like best.
Written by Elvis Costello.

The Ocean Blue- "Ground Gives Way"

This song is from the group's 2013 album, Ultramarine, and in it they wear their love of New Order on their sleeve, so to speak. Singer/songwriter David Schelzel sounds like New Order singer Bernard Sumner and the words "your silent face"--the title of a New Order song--are among this song's lyrics. In other songs bassist Danny Mittan plays in the plucked Peter Hook style, but rarely.

I wanted to post something from DLR-era VH (I had a few going through my head), but I came across this.

I have no words...

Now I am going to go clean my ears with some Delius!

Public Image Ltd.- "Rise"

John Lydon is a fine musician/songwriter and an even better "conversationalist."

Wildfire Michael Martin Murphy 1975

A great makeout song, but lots of macho types mocked and scorned it as "F@g rock"

"Seattle"- Public Image Limited

This song is probably still heard on various BBC radio shows. Don't know what makes think this, other than the song screams "mainstream UK radio."

"Tomorrow's Just Another Day"- Madness

This group, despite their "wacky", fun-loving persona, have songs that are often more "serious" than the surface might indicate. No, they're not Joy Division, but there is a little bit more to their music.

Well, not a song, but a film score track. (Maybe there should be a "Film Score Track of the Day' in General D.?)

L'amour fou, just for Valentine's Day.

"Mir ist so nach dir"

I've been taking this German 1918-33 thing kind of far...

Maybe could've been longer but melancholy classic by CSN. Perfect meter really. smile or frown depending upon your perspective.

PS- it's the simplest lyrics that work the best. They just seem to flow here.

Every day, a song that is either stuck in your mind, one you love or hate, or perhaps even the song you heard most recently.

Today, it's "Just Dropped in (to See What Condition My Condition Was In)" by Kenny Rogers and the First Edition.

Better than the Kenny Rogers chicken chain!

Instrumental of the Day, in this case.

Something to get the first weekend of May off, right?
