Unlike Prince Damian, I LOVE the Olympics -- both winter and summer -- but am frustrated that I'm unable to see much of it.

I would love to see a sheet of the music used throughout the opening ceremony, and the name of the original compositions, both orchestral and electronic. Few of them were mentioned by the rubbish Norwegian commentators, who talked all over most of it. I only recognized some of the existing music, like Dukas' THE SORCERER'S APPRENTICE (ahead of the Lumiére section) and, I think, some Daft Punk. Maybe a few other bits and bobs. Like, who did the music for the metal horse galloping across the Seine? Couldn't hear it under the commentators.

While most of the Olympics are shown on Max/Discovery+ (which I do not own), I've managed to gain access to Eurosport, which at least shows a few things. Today, I saw Djokovich totally annihilate an Australian whose name escapes me in the tennis tournament, saw Spain comfortably beat The Dominican Republic in the football tournament, and Evenopol continue his impressive streak (after his third place in the Tour de France) with a win in the cycling time trial. Although in the absence of Vingegaard and Pogacar (who for some reason didn't participate).

There was a fine remix of Cerrone's Supernature, at least, when the black guy was dancing.

21:30 primetime viewing on Saturday night and the main channel is showing....fencing.

Picket?

No, I don't feel that strongly about it.

big grin

See what you did there

We watched most of the opening ceremony. Individually the things they presented were excellent bordering on amazing. The rising statues, the Eiffel Tower laser show, the horse galloping along the Seine. Didn’t seem a lot of coherence about it, but perhaps that was explained in the bit we missed.

Haven’t seen much of the actual sports yet, but we were visiting family yesterday. What sport I saw was the third test and a bit of F1 qualifying. I’m sure I’ll catch a lot more of the Olympics when the skiing starts.

If this were the worst offence of brainless muppets, Bill, I’d take it.

The commentators in Germany had not much advance notifications about what was going on either, everything was prepared secretly, so not to give away anything. But they did give some background information.
The music director for the ceremony was Victor Le Masne, and IIRC, he also composed the original music for the metal horse on the Seine river. He also adapted many pre-existing compositions of course, plus there were other musicians and composers.. Lady Gaga and Celine Dion obviously, Heavy Metal, many French classical composer (not just Dukas, but I also noticed Offenbach, Debussy, Ravel, Bizet, etc.), I mean, they had to keep it interesting and have something for everybody (which I think was rather successfully done... I wouldn't know how to pull it off any better).

No, there are many greater crimes, true, but sadly its all too widespread this OTT reactions for fairly routine stuff. And its everywhere.

Thanks for the info. The 'heavy metal' was Gojira, by the way, who recently headlined here in Norway. Not familiar with Victor Le Masne. I had hoped they had recruited some living French film composers, just as the Olympics invariably do. But AFAIK, no Desplat, Serra, Yared, Talgorn, Sarde etc.

So far today -- been watching some rowing (didn't know Romania was so good at it; it's mostly dominated by English-speaking countries like the US, the UK, Australia, New Zealand...and Norway sucks!). A little bit of skateboarding (where are the Americans?). A little bit of swimming. I'm at the mercy of whatever Discovery+ has "given" to Eurosport.

You don't have TV Norge?

You’re just as joyless, cynical and bitter as me.

They probably set their tv to record the event. Hoping to catch a glimpse of themselves looking a right prick.

Nope. It's part of Discovery+/Max now.

Just watched some archery; surprisingly exciting. Very straightforward (get the arrow in the middle!), which makes it easier to get engrossed. South Korea won the women's class again, beating China, and continuing their almost 40-year winning streak in the Olympics.

Andy Murray & partner fighting for their lives at the moment. Would be a shame if he finished his career with an exit in the first round.

One of the craziest tennis matches I've seen! Murray & Evans lose first set 2-6 against the Japanese, then barely win the second 7-6 in a tiebreak. Then amazingly comes back from FIVE matchballs against them in the final tie, and WIN! Awesome.

Quite a comeback. With this win, Scottish tennis player Andy Murray becomes British tennis player Andy Murray once again big grin

Just saw the men's offroad biking competition. Very tense! And that last pass by Pidcock, when he passed the Frenchman at the other side of the tree, was pretty spectacular. And his way into the race after a flat tire. Most impressive.

Canoe slalom! What a wild and chaotic sport. But definitely action-filled.
