NIGHT COURT---the reboot premiere drew 7.4 million viewers which is the best comedy series premiere since THE CONNERS in 2018.

Bummer. razz

Why? It was entertaining enough. Certainly better than most other comedies currently out there. It was a bit jarring to hear a laugh track again while watching a modern tv show, but I guess that is supposed to be part of its charm.

Another sequel to 'bring back old friends' to rekindle memories and nostalgia of the old times. Or you can rewatch the original.

To each their own. I am not sure that "bring back old friends" really applies in this case, as John Larroquette is the only cast member from the original show returning. At least so far. I enjoyed the original quite a bit, but IMHO, it didn't really hit its stride until Markie Post became a regular cast member, which I believe was its third season. As I said, the reboot is entertaining enough and I am willing to give it a chance. Will it hit the same heights as the original? Who knows, but I am willing to watch the show for now.

TRON: ARES---director Joachim Ronning (PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: DEAD MEN TELL NO TALES) is in negotiations to direct the sequel starring Jared Leto which begins filming in August.

I hope Cillian Murphy is back in his very promising role as Sark's (!) son. This assumes/presumes filmmakers will continue on from TRON Legacy.

I'm sure it hinges on Laroquette.

BTW, I like Tron 2.0 better. Legacy makes it sound like the franchise is over. big grin

So they're not bringing back the two original stars of Legacy, Olivia Wilde and Garrett Hedlund?
Seems odd. Don't they have the star power to bring in an audience?

I would wager they have better "Star" power than where Leto is at, but some deal must've been made years ago which causes Leto to stick like glue or something because otherwise he is proven box office disappointment and with zero interest even online for his "talent." Adding him to something like Tron just makes me think of F. Murray Abraham's line in Inside Llewyn Davis: "I'm not seeing any money here."

Preiss also has another great scene in Anzio where he is discussing how wide open Rome is and demanding more troops and panzers. He had a great voice.

He also had a substantial few scenes as Rommel in Raid on Rommel with richard burton.

Naked Gun reboot. Why? I'm sure Seth will find a way to screw this all up.

I, too, root for the day when Jared Leto leaves us alone.

The tragic part of the Blade Runner 2049 part is that David Bowie was cast for the Wallace role and the script was finished with that casting in mind. Unfortunately mortality caught up with Bowie and he passed before filming could begin. I love the film, but Leto is quite a weak link in it. Worst of all is the dialogue and concept of the character as devised by screenwriters Hampton Fancher and Michael Green seems tailor-made for the authority and quality of air which was a David Bowie's ethereal existence on screen. Leto is a shallow wannabe and the gravitas of the character is lost while he scowls and feigns elder authority.

I don't really get it's appeal? BR2049 was the first movie I walked out of before it finished. The cinematography is one of the greatest accomplishments, but because it's so sterile and lifeless that's what did it. I think Gosling was a mistake. He isn't a very good actor IMO, so playing a droid like a droid was a turn off. With Ford he thought he was real or something. (Correct me if I'm wrong. I keep getting confused.) Not to knock Ford, but he's one thing as an actor. He doesn't get hired to play a "character," and you can appreciate that he gives it a 110%. But like in 2049 it seemed like he was the only thing worth getting excited about because even if he's a droid he comes across as human. Ryan's just blah.

Like Ford's character thought he was human, Ford played him like he was human (or aspirations of being human), but in the end he was a droid.

Ryan's character knew he was a droid but ended up playing him like a droid because of his acting limitation. I never see the human ambition coming out of the droid.

Why I liked the original is because I guess as someone else described it is it's about themes and symbolism, and it has this rather unique poetic quality that I find anyway. Not sure on that last part.

Correct me if I'm wrong. I always get confused on who is what.

I like a lot of things about Orville but I hate 99% of his humor. Naked Gun isn't my kind of thing anyway.

No, he was human.
Peoples' opinions on this can certainly differ, but it won't change fact.
There is nothing in the book to suggest that he was an android.
The whole Decker-was-an-android blather was dreamed up by Ridley Scott to create controversy.

There are entire threads elsewhere that delve deeply into that discussion, so let's not derail this thread further.

I don't understand that. I mean, every sequel/reunion movie to series fits that description. I'm telling ya, its a good thing nobody said that when the Star Trek movies were being made.

"Who needs to see Kirk, Spock and McCoy battling Khan? Watch the episode!" I wouldn't trade the classic Trek movies for anything (even the crummy ones) and as a group all we wanted was the series to come back on a weekly.

If you're a fan of the series being brought back - with the original surviving cast - these are something to look forward to. If you're not, then it's "Hollywood is creatively bankrupt" for the umpteenth time. But, I would always pick a continuation/true sequel series to a reboot that just exploits the brand familiarity. Those, I agree, are creatively lazy - unless something truly different is done with them. But then, why not just build your own universe?

Back in the foggy memories of the 70's and 80's, it was great when the reunion movie craze was in full swing. Even though most of them turned out like crap because networks insisted they be backdoor pilots with a focus be on spin off characters or the original leads' kids, the whole idea of seeing them again in new stories was exciting.

None of my favorite shows are ever coming back because everyone involved is either too old or dead. But I wanted a new Lost in Space, Time Tunnel and classic Battlestar Galactica TV show picking 10 or 15 years later. Even now, I'd love another X-Files or 24 return event series.

Yeah its BS. Nothing in the first movie indicated he was an android either. Same with Ron Moore making key Galactica personal into Cylones. It really jumped the shark.

Too often it's a case of the magic being gone.

Didn't the unicorn reveal he knew Deckard's dreams, or was that just added in later in the Final Cut?

It's an addition but there are more interpretations of that finale than "Deck-a-Rep." For one, Gaff lets them live to embrace whatever humanity they can find together.

He clearly didn't have the strength or endurance of a Replicant. He was no match for Batty. Deckard was human.

Rachael is a Replicant, yes. But, by Tyrell's design, she is unaware that she is.
