Any word on the remaining Val Lewton films? Particularly I WALKED WITH A ZOMBIE and THE SEVENTH VICTIM. I can't get over how well done his films are.

Nothing concrete, but there are rumors that Criterion might possibly have those two films.

Per Home Theater Forum, July’s release slate includes Adventures of Don Juan and The Frisco Kid. Will be keeping an eye out for anymore releases.

Yup, I noticed that, maybe a third title will be announced. I have to have Adventures of Don Juan, a lovely bit of 3-strip Technicolor Errol Flynn. No specs yet, but I hope it's from the original nitrate negatives like Warner's other swashbuckler releases, if so, it'll look stunning.

Considering Warner’s current track record with Technicolor restorations, I’d be very surprised if Don Juan is not sourced from the Technicolor negatives.

Er...no (saying that, you never know, it could well be in the next batch of releases). The trouble is that Warner are sitting on a huge mountain of films & only a minority of them will ever get a Blu-ray release. I'm waiting on a lot of films that may never get released. Here's just 12 of a great many I'd like:

The Mask Of Fu Manchu (1932) staring Boris Karloff
The Roaring Twenties (1939 staring James Cagney
Bataan (1943) staring Robert Taylor
any of the Johnny Weissmuller Tarzan's
The Big Sky (1952)
Scaramouche (1952) - with the Technicolor swashbucklers that Warner have been releasing lately, I have high hopes for this one.
Land Of The Pharaohs (1956
Helen Of Troy (1956)
Up Periscope (1959)
She (Hammer) (1965)
Start The Revolution Without Me (1970)
Pennies From Heaven (1981)

...& tons more...

Looking forward to "The Frisco Kid". Love that movie --- although, I seem to be the only one out here (just about everyone else seems to trash it or ignore it).

RAMEAU:

I had a chance to buy the dvd WHO IS KILLING THE GREAT CHEFS OF EUROPE before WBShop stopped their 5 for $50 sale, but didn't because I was hoping for a bluray version.

Yeah, I've nearly bought the Warner DVD of She (1965) a couple of times, but thought no, they're bound to release a great looking Blu-ray soon...& maybe not!

Exciting news about Don Juan. It's one of my favourite Flynn films.

Warner Archive has revealed that it plans to add two new titles to its Blu-ray catalog this July. They are: The Frisco Kid (1979) and Adventures of Don Juan (1948).

The Frisco Kid

It's 1850 and new rabbi Avram Belinski sets out from Philadelphia toward San Francisco. Description: Cowpoke bandit Tom Lillard hasn't seen a rabbi before. But he knows when one needs a heap of help. And getting this tenderfoot to Frisco in one piece will cause a heap of trouble—with the law, Native Americans and a bunch of killers.

Gene Wilder and Harrison Ford are one feisty team as rabbi and rescuer in this rough-'n'-ready romp that rivals Wilder's earlier Blazing Saddles in Wild West hilarity. Director Robert Aldrich is a seasoned hand at blending roughhouse and laughter, as fans of his earlier The Dirty Dozen and The Longest Yard will attest.

With a full posse of screen talents, The Frisco Kid rides tall in the comedy saddle. Also starring Ramon Bieri, Val Bisoglio, and George DiCenzo.

STREET DATE: JULY 12.

Adventures of Don Juan

Description: Errol Flynn (The Adventures of Robin Hood, Captain Blood) stars in this Oscar-winning swashbuckling yarn as the legendary lover who romances the queen and saves the country from treason.

In this later-career swashbuckler, Flynn is a warmer, wittier version of his earlier characters as he plays Don Juan, the Spanish lover who fights to save the Spanish queen (Viveca Lindfors) from the snares of the evil Duke de Lorca.

Co-starring Robert Douglas (Ivanhoe) and Alan Hale (It Happened One Night), this gorgeous production won the Academy Award for Costume Design. Directed by Vincent Sherman.

STREET DATE: JULY 19.

It looks like the Archive is skipping August this year. Amazon pages recently went up for Rachel, Rachel; Abe Lincoln in Illinois, and a reissue of the 1933 King Kong.

Not great news for me. We're back to knowing the releases two months ahead (so a really long wait for release) & those three releases don't interest me (I already have King Kong), so...I wonder what the October releases will be?

At present, the Fredric March version of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is expected to be released by October if all goes well (as was indicated when the Spencer Tracy version was released back in May).

George Feltenstein recently appeared on a podcast episode of The Extras in which he revealed that “various internal delays and problems” were the reason there were no releases in August. Among other things, he also mentions that Around the World in 80 Days is now in the queue for restoration and that preservation elements are being gathered for the film and also gives a detailed account of the various problems facing a potential restoration of Raintree County.

October titles seem to be trickling in. Amazon pages recently went up for Mark of the Vampire (October 11th) and the Fredric March version of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (October 25th).

No new November releases this year, but we will be getting Attack of the 50-Foot Woman and Night of the Iguana in December. Per Ron Epstein and George Feltenstein:

Good Morning, Everyone!

I know all of you have been anticipating an announcement from Warner concerning their November releases.

I received communication within the past hour from George Feltenstein who wanted to provide an update for everyone:

There will be no WAC new releases in November. Rather than have everyone waiting and guessing what the new November titles will be, I thought it made sense to communicate this to you, and ask that you pass this message on publicly through HTF, if you so desire. This year has been a disappointment in terms our number of releases due to many internal issues within the company. That's the bad news.

Now, the good news: Although we often have skipped December releases in the past, we will have two new releases early this December, and they couldn't be more different. Both are new HD masters from 4K scans off the original camera negatives. They are ATTACK OF THE 50 FT. WOMAN (1958) and THE NIGHT OF THE IGUANA (1964). Then, come 2023, the WAC releases currently in the works number over 50 new film titles, and there will be more BD classic animation and hopefully some new TV content. 2023 will look much more like 2021 did, with a plethora of exciting releases.

I'm sending this to you, as I want our consumers to know what's going on, and I thought you could post about this and it would serve to get the word out.

I think it's good that he's told people what's going on. So no more colour this year, both Dec. titles are B/W & I don't fancy them, so it's wait & see for next year.
