The days of thinking that the cinema run should define whether a film is profitable are long gone, and we need to stop thinking in those terms. Disc and streaming should definitely be taken account of before any profit calculations are made, with some kind of 'cut-off' date for when those sales are considered in the equation (which may matter for profit points for the people involved in the making of the film).

This and the fact that box office numbers are truly global now (especially with how big the Chinese market has become).

With sales of 7.2 million copies worldwide, "Skyfall" is one of the best selling digital singles of all time. Not to mention, it's the only Bond song to win an Academy Award.

No. "Writing's on the Wall" from SPECTRE also won an Academy Award.

True. I should have said "first" and not "only."

Box office vs. streaming was the whole basis of Scarlett Johansson's lawsuit against Disney regarding BLACK WIDOW. Her salary was $25 million, with an additional $6 million bonus if the film's worldwide gross was above $900 million. She claimed that Disney breached the contract by releasing the movie simultaneously on their streaming service Disney+, which seriously limited its box office success. (The film's worldwide theatrical gross was $380 million.)

Yes, the two HUGE Chinese blockbusters that sit above Bond and F9 in the money making stakes this past year.

So forget about revamping James Bond, or 007, as black or female, make'em Chinese.
