So I've gone through Jack, Khyber, Screaming and am now on Behind (oo-er!) - all four giving me pleasure and groans (those puns and innuendos!) I ought to tackle some of the earlier ones next.

Does anyone know what "frying tonight" signifies?

I think that's a sign we used to get in Fish & Chip shops. Probably one of the jokes that don't travel, like in Carry On Cleo, when someone says Isis, Isis, & Kenneth Connor says under his breath - "they're lovely" - that's probably another UK only joke as well.

Behind is fairly poor.

Abroad, cruising and camping are decent

Ah, OK, I figured "frying tonight" was some sort of UK-only reference!

Behind is fairly poor.

Carry On Behind is terribly tacky (The other three I saw are all lushly designed period films), but I'm getting a lot of chuckles from it. (And, man oh man, Elke Sommer is sure dishy in this!)

I advise "Carry on screaming", not because it's funny, it isn't just like all the others, but it has a nice opening song and the sets and surroundings are so beautiful. I love the look of the English productions of the 60s. Not the hippy crap but the every day and the luxury side of the 60s. The ITC-, 60s Edgar Wallace-, 60s Mss Marple- look.

Of all the unfun that is "Carry on", "Screaming" does have a somewhat funny exchange:

Police assistant to toilet attendant: "Now be careful, I shall take down anything you say".
Toilet attendant defiantly to police assistant: "Alright, trousers."

Frying Tonight came from the fact that the chip shop was frying fresh and not heating up last night's leftovers, i.e all fresh tonight.

I read somewhere that out of all the actors in Carry On films, Elke Sommer was paid the most. That would mean that she was paid more than Phil Silvers in Carry On...Follow That Camel.

ELKE: He (Cupid) is firing arrow which is hitting people in [sounds like "ass"]
KENNETH: In WHAT???!!???
ELKE (touches her chest): Hearts! Hearts!

I was looking for the Camping quotes where Mr Fiddler is charging them a "parnd" for everything but not on imdb.

Found this though, always makes me laugh.

Mrs. Fussey: " Joan may think you're a gentleman but personally I've got sore misgivings."

Sid Boggle: "You ought to put some talcum powder on them."

Which one is that from?

They sure get a lot of mileage out of words like "it," "them," and "off."

And the whole "Babs" Windsor getting her baps out or not thing was cringe. Could never stand her either.

Not Now, Darling ... a 'missing link' between Carry On and Are You Being Served??

Carry On Nurse now. And, look, the young Shirley Eaton and Jill Ireland! I'm also getting my first encounter with the notorious Hattie Jacques. (From the later films I've seen, it appears Joan Sims [who plays a clumsy student nurse here] takes over the termagant roles.)

Terence Longdon must have been separated at birth from John Woodvine.

I still haven't come across Barbara Windsor or Margaret Nolan in a Carry On yet, but I've only gone through five of 'em...

To be honest Windsor wasnt my cuppa tea even when young, preferred young Liz Fraser.

Its fair to say that all the girls used in carry on films over the years in a way probably one of few series that rivals Bond girls.
