I compare GOT to the Walking Dead, in that--you really shouldn't get attached to any of the characters.

You have a long way to go edw. Many bad characters do redeeming things and many good characters do snidey things so prepare to have your conclusions challenged at times.

I watched the first series, wasn't that impressed and forgot about it. Left it four years or so and got back into it. Enjoyed it more and ended up watching them all. Early on there was a bit too much sex and swearing, which felt like an attempt to hook in audiences. It just wasted time that would have been better spent on better dialogue and plot development. The middle seasons were very entertaining. Then the last season and a half dropped off a cliff in writing quality, which was just abysmal at times. Many things stopped making sense. Character motivation was baffling, and just common sense things like how to defend a castle were rendered absolutely stupid for the sake of "cool" visuals. It was The Walking Dead writing-level moronic by the end. They were in love with the C-word from the start, used it pointlessly to show how cool characters, which always irritated me. Jon Snow is pretty much a damp rag all the way through the thing, alternating between sad, ineffective and dense for almost every moment he's in it. But seasons 2 - 6? were lots of fun. There are some good characters in there, some excellent SFX in later seasons and nice music too at times. It's like going on a long and fairly interesting journey but then arriving at a terrible hotel that makes you wonder why you bothered.
