I know, ignoring those losers are the best, but it's kind of hard when they show up here brimming with ignorance and cluelessness. :-D

Losers is in the eye of the beholder, but you do have a point...

Froese is dead?

And being that this thread is about the creator of film scores -- whatever their worth -- shouldn't it be on the other side?

Only a part of what Froese did were film scores.

(continuation of enlightenment of the ignorant and clueless...)

Well, yeah, I am a synth hater, at least when it sounds synthy. What's up your ass that you got a problem with that?

But, I didn't put it right. What I meant to say was that Tangerine Dream was one of the worst things that ever happened to film scores.

I hope that makes you feel better. roll eyes

Oh, you're one of those guys. Yeah, TD was "one of the worst things," sure. If only Thief could have been scored with generic orchestral cues rather than the cutting edge synth tech that make that film and its aesthetic so unique. roll eyes

Yeah, you're right, if only. Poor Thief, it deserved much better. We agree about something!

All this time, you didn't realize you could watch the movie with the sound off and your favorite Nelson Riddle score playing on a boombox?

It's funny - I recently added Tadlow's Ben-Hur, LLL's ET & Sky Captain, and Intrada's Shogun to my collection. But reading this thread has made me just wanna pull up some classic Tangerine Dream, cause I enjoy it all. It's too bad that more people can't enjoy the diversity - this is a big part of what makes life worth living for me.

[But I'm not buying the book because honestly I'm not interested in a whole autobiography. Klaus Schulze maybe, but not Froese. Happy to glean what I need from the internets.]

Agreed. I have both Dave Brubeck and the Tangents box sitting on the same shelf in my den not for show but because I enjoy both equally. I am proud I have such a diverse taste in music. I can say I have Quiet Village and The Happy Organ in the same Expedit cube as my vinyls of Phaedra and Sorcerer. We can get along people!

...except if you like the Paul Hasslinger era and beyond. Those albums sucked.

Underwater Sunlight, the very first album with Paul Haslinger, released in 1986, is one of TD's best albums.

TD's 1989 film score for Miracle Mile just got the 2CD reissue treatment, and that's the last truly great score they put out (and it's done entirely by Edgar & Paul).

Just out of morbid curiosity, I'd like to ask a question of everyone here...

Oh, I don't think this is the appropriate place. I'll start a new thread.

I absolutely enjoy the Haslinger era. And beyond.

Your welcome to your opinion. That said, to me its all downhill after Hyperborea (Underwater Sunlight aside).

Poland is incredible. I assume you like that one, too, since it was recorded live and released within a year of Hyperborea.

I'm not really interested in reading Frose's autobiography, but truth be told, I spin his score for the 1982 film KAMIKAZE 1989 more often than any of Tangerine Dream's soundtracks (several of which also dwell in my pantheon of synthscoredom).

Hey, I even love Mars Polaris and Mota Atma, they were great workout listens. I enjoy at least something from every TD period. It's fun to be me!

And thanks for the Schulze bio link, FB. Awfully mixed reviews on Amazon, but good to know it's there.
